Tough question. Not familiar with PL varieties that are cherries. Indeed you're going to get a nice harvest. Is that fingernail polish? (smile)

My guess....stupice?

It has many flowers per truss and potato leaf.

But this is my first year gardening so don't put too much weight on my opinion.

No its probably not a cherry for two reasons, 1) it has potatoleaf foliage, and almost no dcherry varieties have that, and 2) it has a beefsteak-type flower structure.

My money would be on a large pink beefsteak.

Oh I hope it is a beefsteak type...I had Cherry and beefsteak planted closest to where it's growing. I planted two Matts wild cherry this year, and I know I am gonna have more little tomatoes than I know what to do with...so another suprise beef steak would be nice!

It would be helpful to where this mystery plant came from, that is, a volunteer in your garden, a wrong plant from a commercial source, something you raised from seed and it wasn't what you expected, etc?

Off hand the only PL cherry I can think of right now is Galina's Yellow which has deep gold cherries.

But I don't think the blossom arrangement on the seed stalk looks like a cherry tomato and there are quite a few medium and larger fruited size varieties that it could be.

It really might help, I think, if you could explain the origin of this mystery plant.

This is a voulnteer. I had plums, cherries and beef steaks last year..but I can't recall the names. I got them from a small nursery that did sell heirloom, along with hybrids. I remember trying to select heirloom types versus hybrid. And I rememer that the beefsteak grew pretty large, and wasn't super red when ripe. And it wasnt a perfect "round shape"..

OK, so it's a volunteer and so any named variety we might come up with is out.

Do you remember if any of the varieties you grew last year had potato leaf foliage as opposed to the more frequently seen regular foliage?

Other than knowing if any of your varieties last year were PL, and without you being able to remember the names of the varieties you did grow I do think it's going to be impossible to ID what you have, not just to variety but as you asked originally, as to whether it's going to be a cherry or not.

And a couple of us have said why we don't think it's a cherry and why, but I do hope you'll come back and tell us how it's developing and what it turned out to be b'c unless you grew a PL variety last year this plant is probably the result of a cross pollination and what you're growing is an F1 hybrid plant. And even that is dicey, meaning the X pollination, b'c in order to get a PL plant from random X pollination both parents would have to be heterozygous for the PL gene, ......, etc,but I'm going too far now, in trying to explain that which is really not necessary to try and explain. LOL

What's important is how do you like what you eventually get from this plant.

Thanks!! I think the beef steak had the big leaves like this one does...Hopefully some fruit will set soon and I will find out...I will keep you posted.

So is potato leaf a dominant or recessive trai in tomatoes?

Both my Brandywine and Missouri Pink love apple look similar. They are both PL and put off good sized tomatoes. My guess would be a Brandywine of some sort.
