"Tour six gardens in the World War II-era Crestwood neighborhood May 31 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) or June 1 (noon to 4 p.m.)."

"Presented by Historic Fort Worth Inc., the tax-deductible tickets, available at select retailers, are $15 each in advance or $20 on the day of the tour. For information or to obtain tickets, call 817-336-2344 ext.107 Monday through Friday, or go online at www.historicfortworth.org."

"The Crestwood Addition, platted in 1941 and 1942, is tucked in a crook of the West Fork of the Trinity River. Its streets undulate with the topography and even split in deference to native trees that were there first."

" Owners of several of the garden stops have wrested back yards from a heavily wooded creekside terrain. That means visitors can glean tips about gardening in shade, terracing the landscape and sharing a garden with wildlife.

Gardeners also will be interested in the theme gardens included in the tour: container gardening in huge pots, butterfly gardening and a New England cottage-garden look modified for the Texas soil and climate. Hidden Gardens of Fort Worth "
