Harriet05, Yes, it does make sense! I live on the out skirts of Youngstown and about 50 min. From Twinsburg. My DH works in Twinsburg. I'm grateful my Mom is still with me, she is taking my Dad's death hard, but they have been divorced for 13 years. My Step Mom is the one who did most of his care and she is lost without him. I hope she finds something to do to keep her busy! I love her but at a distance because there has been some hard time in our relationship. I know she loved my Dad cause she stayed and put up with his crabbiness and all his suffering. If she didn't love him she would have been gone. They married in 98 and he got sick in 99. I have good moments and some not so good, trying to stay strong for my kids, the little one is taking it hard but he is doing pretty good. He went to calling hours and the funeral and so far no nightmares. I told him we had to say buy to Pappy and he would look like he was sleeping, but he wasn't breathing and he has no heartbeat. He would be laying in his heaven bed, and he seemed ok with that. He isn't letting us out of his sight though! He is 4. I guess that's not so bad! Annie the chicks and ducks are doing good. coop is almost finished the run is separate right now and they seem to be ok in there. We think we decided that when they get older they will get the goat pen and we will make a bigger pen for the goats!!! We have room but a wooded lot, so a lot of clearing has to be done, and we have cherry trees all over the place. I can't tell yet what my chicks are, I have a hunch we may have more than one rooster!! I don't know. I also just learned that if we do have mascovy ducks that if they breed with the mallards we have, then their babies will be infertile. So now I'm really freaking out, cuz we want some babies to raise and I certainly don't want to create a bad breed or something! I don't remember my Dad having these worries, but then he only raised one kind of duck, and one kind of chicken! Tonight we got stuck in the barn because of a sudden thunder storm, so all the birds and the 3 goats were in the same pen! Goats were insulted. I got to hold and hand feed the birds though and my li'l guy did too, he was thrilled can't say the bird was thrilled! LOL!!! Yeah, parents are never to be without a job! Thanks Brenda

Tracy, I used to have all kinds of trouble with pillbugs and sowbugs eating every single thing I planted. They'd start eating bean seedlings (and others too) as soon as they emerged from the ground and they'd eat their weight in garden produce all summer long, including munching on tomatoes, muskmelons, canteloupes, cucumbers and watermelons. I bought and used Slug-Go (iron phosphate in a pelleted form) after someone on GardenWeb mentioned that they used it for snails and slugs, but noticed after using it that their pillbug and sowbug problems went away, and so did their cutworms. After seeing many similar anecdotal reports, I bought the Slug-Go to use on sow bugs and pill bugs and found it worked wonders. I was so excited. In the meantime, these anecdotal reports reached the manufacturer and they worked to improve the Slug-Go to make it even more effective on sowbugs and pillbugs by adding spinosad, and the result was Slug-Go Plus. In my garden, Slug-Go and Slug-Go Plus seem equally effective, as do any of the similar organic snail and slug baits that contain iron phosphate as the active ingredient. Since I started using them I simply don't have problems with roly polies at all any more, nor do I have cutworm issues. I've never had snail or slugs most likely because my clay isn't high enough in organic matter to be attractive to them, but we've always had tons of roly polies under the mulch. Now we don't. If you can't find Slug-Go or SLug-Go Plus in local stores, they're widely available from online retailers. I buy some before the start of every season so I'll have it at planting time. Whether directly sowing seeds or transplanting, I scatter the Slug-Go Plus on the soil surface following the label directions after I've planted and watered in whatever I planted. That's Michael Johnson in the UK and his seed source was what? As I said, GC seeds are out there in both red and pink versions but the first ones that I and several others knew were pink, as described by Jimmy Williams himself. And that was way before Laurel got the seeds for GC and started seeling plants and I don't know through whose hands the seeds went before she started selling plants. Jimmy Williams tried to patent GC and the patent application is online and makes for interesting reading. But no patent was given, for several reasons I'm sure. Well, I might as well tell you the rest of the story here. I was contacted by a fact checker from a magazine that was doing an article on Jimmy Williams and wanted my opinion of the claims he made for the variety. And that's when I first started looking into it really seriously b'c at the time that Jimmy said the seeds came from the Caribbean there were no smooth looking tomatoes anywhere and that didn't happen until maybe 70 years later when the first smooth, not bumpy lumpy ones of previous years existed. I checked with my friend Andy Smith who wrote the best book on the History of the Tomato that I know of and he agreed with me. I have no idea if that article ran or not. Carolyn

To start, let me say this: I am in the middle of a complete DIY kitchen remodel which I designed, planned and made my dream come true (yes, little ole 58 yr old woman, me!) And I couldn't have done it without this website and your blogs!! Thanks to all! To those who wonder why use a pot filler because the pot you fill with water will have to eventually return to the sink for draining anyway, I can say this: for me who has carpel tunnel and arthritis in my hands and shoulders, just cutting one trip to the sink (my cooktop is opposite the sink several feet away), justifies the need for a pot filler. Also, I chose a single bowl 33" sink (9" deep) and this will reduce "inconveniences" at the sink when I try to fill a pot while my son (or husband) is cleaning or draining something else. I chose a deck-mount pot filler (great price on the net) which requires just an extra hole in my new granite and no drilling or worries about something being installed on the back wall. This also means simple install because all I had to do was ask my plumber to draw a copper line horizontally from my fridge to the cooktop with a shut off valve, and then use a flexible heavy duty hose from the valve to the pot filler (easy access because I just remove the drawers under my cooktop to install it). And as I am one of those people who change their flexible water lines from the washing machine and dishwasher once every 5 years, I will add this line to the list. This way, no worries about leaks!
