Some bug bit my flytrap! =(
Comments (10)Ok darkdes, The first insect sounds an awful lot like a silkworm. This isnt really known to be a pest, so I doubt it will cause any harm, let alone an infestation. The sawn off leaf is the tricky part. Carnivorousplants is right, Praying mantises only eat insects. The baby will help fend off your plant from other insects (lucky you!). Im not quite sure what took off your leaf though. Was it sawed off in a straight, clean cut, or was it jagged? It could possibly be some kind of mammal, like a squirrel just curious about the taste. Ive had a bird peck a big hole in my sarracenia to get the bugs before. If this is the case, there's nothing really you can do, unless you feel like standing by your plants the whole day with a rifle. By the way, does anybody know what impact tentworms have on cp's?Hopefully they don't eat them. Back here in pennsylvania we get them REAL bad. Over the years they've worked their way up closer...and closer...and CLOSER...to the house, leaving dying trees in their path. My carnivorous plants wont be able to take that onslaught. Our methods of irradication normally include a chainsaw gasoline, and a box of matches. (they make BIG nests). I probably wont be able to do that with my cp's. Anyway, good luck to you, and if anyone knows if those demon worms eat cp's, let me know. Squim4...See MoreWhat The Heck Bit Me???
Comments (20)One thing to keep in mind: most "bites" are actually allergic reactions to the bite. The reason some people never seem to get bit by mosquitoes is simply they don't get the allergic reaction the vast majority of the population gets. But they still get malaria or dengue if they're in a zone where those diseases, which are carried by mosquitoes, are endemic. Different people react differently and what a wasp or bee does to you may not look like what a wasp or bee does to me. Whatever bit you is most likely something you're allergic to. And allergic reactions can be quite serious, but generally aren't. What I've been taught is: if within the first few minutes you don't start swelling up ALL over, or having trouble breathing, you'll be fine. That said, I once had an allergic reaction (to mangoes) that never would have killed me, but lasted for two weeks after I ate it. And the lack of sleep was going to make ME kill someone. I had to take steroids to finally get rid of the hives. So they can definitely make you miserable. If it looks better today, you're fine. Don't let it get infected, from scratching it, or from a home remedy. (Our grandmothers knew that any home remedy needed to be boiled first.) Benadryl helps (but didn't cure my hives.) Cortisone helps (but didn't cure my hives either.) You can get a reaction that just gets into your system somehow. That's much easier with a food allergy, however. The experts don't really understand allergies. Prednisone is a a miracle drug for long-term hives that don't respond to anything else. But that is really a last ditch solution, if the problem is spreading, getting worse, or causing you to want to kill someone. Hope that helps. And hope you're feeling better. Comments (7)When I lived in a small town near Midland, Michigan I learned that Midland was the sister city to Okinawa, Japan. I think it was Okinawa. Anyway, they sent the beetles to Midland to help with the problems they were having with aphids eating their corn and say bean crops. Turned out to be a bad idea. These little orange bettles were in masses in barns and garages. They bite! It's not pleasant and I'm bummed to find they've come down here. When I see one in my yard, I squash it. The only ones I want are the red and black spotted ones. I'm just north of San Antonio in Spring Branch...yep, theyyyy'reeee heeere....See MoreREALLY...really tired of looking for.......(bit long and vented!!
Comments (5)Thanks you guys. Ebay is out for me...I have been hit way too many times with not only the shipping charges but our government has the right to "assess" the contents value and charge what they feel is appropriate customs fees. I actually had a hand made lap quilt sent to me from my cousin in Australia for Christmas 3 yrs ago. It was a gift and it was declared what it was etc. but our government made me pay $20.+ to pick it up. Anything through Ebay is almost always shipped through courier type service and is a minimum of $35. to us...I have actually had the service people tell me to try and get the vendors to use regular post...but very few will. In our area we have two department stores, a Walmart and a Zellers. That's it and our Walmart has only in the last year started to offer a food area. There baking area is pretty much nothing, mostly machines etc. Zellers is even worse. We have a Micheals which only carries what they offer to their students basically and is very limited and pricey. Our bulk barn does offer some basic items also and are much cheaper than Micheals. I have been calling restaurant/bakery supply places but they deal more with the "industry" side of things, I am a hobbyist. I have tried googling "baking supllies in Canada" but still get US companies...I will give it a try the way you guys suggested. It really is just very frustrating though. Thanks again for the help and the vent....See Morecatherinet
