Comments (1)I was going to give advice here, until I saw your description of the size of your sago. WOW! mine is just a baby by comparison. I've moved it a few times, but it's planted in the landscape, not in a pot. I moved it recently, not realizing it was getting ready to put out a new flush of fronds.....the move didn't phase it one bit. It continued to push out the new fronds as if I'd never uprooted it and moved it. However, my sago isn't nearly as large as yours and it doesn't have pups. Have you tried posting this in the Palms & Cycads Forum? I bet you'd get some great info. over there....very informed group of folks who know their stuff. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Comments (1)If you don't treat the mother plant after you do that, it can kill the whole plant over time. Any wounds can let fungus get into the tissue, and that includes letting a branch sit around to harden off for a week. I would take a hack saw and make a new cut an 1/8 inch of the original cut and then treat the new cut at once to insure it is clean and sterile. Here is a detailed account on the way I would do it. Disregard the transplanting part and go to the offset part. http://cycadjungle.8m.com/cycadjungle/Most%20Frequently%20Asked%20Questions.html...See MoreMother Sago Palm is nesting ...
Comments (35)Mama sago palm has taken almost a year to develop the seeds and now that they are ripe she is growing new fronds and the process is kicking them out of the nest ... I picked off a bucket full of seeds because of the chance that our new puppy, Alfie, might chew one. They are toxic to dogs. If anyone wants seeds at the fall SAPS let me know now. Otherwise they are going in the green recycle bin ... The male trees are busy producing their cones as they do every year... The female tree may not bloom again for 15 or 20 years. It has only bloomed once before. It's been fun watching the process. Thank you for joining me in the watching ... :-)...See Morecarrie751
