The only one that looks familar is the last one with the lilac colored flowers. The flowers look exactly like those that are on my lamium right now, and even the foliage looks to be similarly textured and shaped.

The first one looks like feverfew. Does it have small white flowers?

The curly one is some kind of onion perhaps.

Could the purple one be Impatiens glandulifera? Those are usually much taller, though.

I meant to say the curly one might be garlic -- of course that's a kind of onion. Garlic chives is another possibility.

Nora - I think the curly one might be a garlic or wild onion. Hard to tell since the previous owner had so many onion-y type things.

Everyone seems to think the lettuce-y one is Feverfew but I'm not convinced. No flowers yet but, more important, it seems too small (only 6 inches, tops ) and the leaves are very soft - like baby lettuce. It does have a strong scent when crushed. I thought feverfew had stiffer leaves and was much, much taller. Or am I thinking of something else?

Rivers1202 - so you are actually cultivating this?! I have a positive ID that it is Lamium but everyone has warned me it's highly invasive. I'm seriously thinking of putting it under a maple where nothing will grow. If it 'escapes" into other parts of the yard I can either transplant it or "round-up it". There is a large patch in an old cemetary that is growing and flowering under a heavy canopy of pine trees. I ahve so many weeds in my garden that I want to irradicate. If they looked half as nice as this I'd let them stay!

Yes, I'm growing a couple varieties of Lamium and it can be an aggressive spreader under the right conditions. But the plant is so attractive that I don't mind and it's easy to pull up the bits you don't want. Haven't you ever seen Lamium for sale at your local nurseries or the garden centers in home improvement stores? Many varieties of Lamium are commonly available at our local nurseries through out the year.
To tell you the truth, if you don't have them growing in the right spot, they can look rather ratty and they won't spread that much. They prefer dry shade... soil that is too damp can cause the foliage to take on a muddy hue and they're likely to rot. I learned that the hard way. And though they are mainly grown as a shade plant, they do appreciate a bit of sun. Early morning or late afternoon sun is ok.
It might be alright under your maple. My mother recently cut down her maple because it was sucking up all the water in her front yard and its roots were choking out other plants nearby..it killed a 20 ft long hedge of Indian Hawthorne.

Believe the curly ones are Egyptians onions.

I think #3 as you guessed is probably the Star of Bethlehem, Ornithogalum umbellatum, that is a pest in many gardens.

#4 and #5 may be two of the nicer species of Star of Bethlehem. Best way to find out is to let them bloom. There are quite a few species of Ornithogalum available to gardeners, and not all of them are invasive pests.

#2: some type of chive? The garlic I had always bloomed. Perhaps this is an onion or garlic or chive, and it just doesn't bloom.

#6: henbit. Highly invasive weed, I have it in my lawn. Looks pretty though. Another variety has the leaves all green (top leaves do not turn dark.) I noticed that the top leaves of henbit turn purple if it grows in sunlight, and they stay green if they are in shade.

Just yesterday I saw in a plant store a thing that looked like a curly chive stalk. I believe it was called "wood cress" and liked damp, edges of bogs. But I could not find any pictures of "wood cress" or "woodcress" on Google.

If you break a piece off does it smell like onions or not?

chuchr30 - I finally got a chance to smell my bulb foliage (LOL!). Definitley and onion-y smell. There are chives (not curlly) in the back yard too so I wonder if the previous owner was just an onion nut! Not much blooms in the backyard because it is so very shaded. Also, most of the bulbs are either highly impacted, or too small and isolated (we've been doing a lot of digging).

I think I will transplant some of the curly bulbs to a single, sunnier, spot and see what they do next year.

#6 could be purple deadnettle or henbit. I have trouble telling them apart, and given that they are both lamiums and early spring lawn pests it doesn't really matter. I kill them with weed b gon.

Your last one is Dead Nettle...member of the Lamiaceae (mint)family...not hard to pull up. I have actually moved some into my yard where I needed groundcover in moister locations.
I have something similar (maybe even the same)that looks like you first pic...rather light green,pretty, smells like cilantro. I have no idea what it is.

Basil, I think your ferny plant is Artemisia annua, Sweet Annie. It's an everlasting and will hold that fragrance for years - it's wonderful in Christmas wreaths. It's a self-sowing annual that gets 4-5 feet tall, smaller in shade, and has insignificant flowers.
