Lion's Fairy Tale
Comments (3)>>The weather here is in the low 90's and upper 80's >Can you wait until autumn? We could. I do hate the thought of loosing the blooms of summer, assuming it doesn't get enough sun to bloom in its current location. But better doing it that way than having no plant at all. The rose was small, in a gallon container (and we feathered off the outer soil away from it a bit when we planted it with mycorrhiza last week). So I was thinking that we might reasonably easily scoop up pretty much the entire root area with a shovel if/when we move it soon. But you never know, sometimes the shovel doesn't accomplish what you think it's going to accomplish, especially with very friable soil that might start to fall apart. If you think we need to wait to be on the safe side, we will do that. Thanks so much for posting. Best wishes, Mary...See MoreIs this really Pomponella Fairy Tale?
Comments (6)The flowers look better on camera than in real life. It is also smaller than the one showing it together with the LO as the picture does not show the distance between the flowers. As a result, the LO appears smaller while this appears much bigger than it really is. Yes, it is a bummer. I was really looking forward to having a Pomponella. Wonder what this could be... Sent an email to Palatine earlier today, and will can talk to someone there tomorrow. I went on a shopping binge and bought two dozens or so roses from pretty every place where I stumble into a rose I like: Rose Unlimited, Heirloom, ARE, Palatine, David Austin, Home Depot and Weeks (via a local nursery). This is my first mislabeled rose......See MoreNursery visit - Upland Nursery (Orange, CA)
Comments (8)I agree - nice and not cheap. However, I totally lucked out that they were having a massive sale. They had a big 50% off section, a decent 35% off section, and all one-color plants were 15% off. There was also some deal for the multi-grafts as well. Going there was kind of overwhelming - so many plants in such a small place. I loved seeing the crazy grafting they were doing, though, and the really large trees! It was also nice to view some of the varieties in person that I had previously only seen in books or online. I also enjoyed seeing some of the large succulents - they had plants I've never seen before in my life. Funny, too, that the nursery was named "Upland" because it used to be in Upland, and the owners, in fact, still live there! I told them if they reopened a branch in Upland, I'd be there every day. lol...See MoreA Tale of Two Composts
Comments (15)You guys better be right about these corn cobs. I broke a few into 5 pieces each. Along with the hard wood charcoal I expect these will be long term items rotating a few times through the bin. I expect they will be islands of wee beastie bio diversity that I can filter out of the castings, toss on top of the bin and they will jump start the new materials with life. They also should absorb and release moisture to the bin as needed which is a key element for me....See MorePKponder TX Z7B
