Is there something wrong with my tomato leaves (pic)

Hi,

Im new to gardening and I planted tomatoes from seed this year. Based on what im reading here in the forum, my plants were doing ok, if only a bit leggy (not enough direct light), until now. I noticed in two leaves this yellow spots, is this normal? Is there something wrong, some kind of fungus, should i remove them? Any help i will truly appreciate.

I'm sorry but your photo is so small (and can't be magnified for some reason) that I can't really see anything other than a couple of yellow leaf tips which could be from many different things - most of them harmless. I certainly wouldn't pull the plant. What and how much have you fed them? has there been a lot of rain lately? have you checked for aphids?

A bigger photo would be helpful. ;)

I fertilized the plants once with espoma tomato, and twice with fish emulsion since i planted them back in mid-May. It has rained quite a bit here, twice a week if not more, .5 to over 1 inch each time, so i haven't watered that much. I have check for aphids, but i haven't seen any, i noticed a couple of white flies, but they are gone too.

I have tried to fix the picture, i hope it works. If you click on the pic it opens big on another tab.

I get the same thing on my peppers. I usually spray the bottoms with soapy water also, and if there are any leaves that look particularly bad I simply pick those off and throw them out. They are annoying little buggers and there life cycle is about three weeks, so you can expect them to come in waves as they pupate drop into the soil then come back and lay more eggs, but if you can stop them before they hatch, they won't bother your tomatos anymore.

This is my first time growing tomatoes and they were doing great. However, I noticed today that the leaves are darkening, almost black. We did have a lot of rain last week, is that it? I checked the plants for bugs and didnt see any. I'm growing 5 plants in containers and it only seems to be happening to 2 of them. They are in an organic soiless mix and I've fed them with fish/seaweed emulsion along with a little tomato tone. Can I fix them?!

Based on what I read, the purple stem means your plants had cold stress. But it had survived and you should have no problem. I would think the yellowish leaves mean some nutrient issue. It is possible that the nutrient was depleted from the soil mix therefore you have the issue. The symptom should disappear after transplanting into soil. However, if it persists, I would try fertilize a bit.

Looks like fertilizer burn. No need to pour liquid fert on the plat itself. All neutriants are absorbed thru the root system. Keeps leaves as dry as possible

Yes it looks like some sort of contact burn like some spilled fertilizer of something. But the rest of the plant looks fine so a few damage leaves are no problem. Within a month or so you will see all sorts of leaf damage/spots develop - it's the nature of the plant getting older and the weather - but most are no serious problem and fruit production isn't affected.

Go easy on the fertilizers until it blooms and begins to set fruit. Then give it a good feeding and then back off again for a month or so. Too much fertilizer is worse than too little. ;)

Thanks so much everyone. It just dawn on me that it has only been just over a month since i plant them and I have fertilized them 3 TIMES!!!!. I guess too much love is not so good. I do have blooms all over the plants and 4 tiny tomatoes. I was so worried because I lost so many blossoms to the heat wave we had a week ago. So Im ok, for now. Im just so overly concerned with my tomatoes, i hope is just a first year thing :)

Yes without knowing your garden it is hard to say how often you should fertilize. But in my garden I try to spray Neptune's Harvest fish and seaweed foliar spray every 2-3 weeks. Really makes a difference. Some don't believe in foliar sprays but after some experimentation I have proved it works well for me. I've sprayed it on some and not others next to them and proved it works. JD

The only folks that could possibly not believe in foliar feeding are those doing too much reading and not enough doing and I don't care at all how many letters they have behind their names.

I don't foliar feed as a rule but find it very helpful as a safe way to determine if too little fertilizer is the problem. A few spritzes and a few days later, if green up has occoured, its safe to feed the roots. If no positive reaction, it certainly doesn't need more. Very safe, very useful.
