You said: "I moisten the soil daily" But you also said that the tomatoes are in self-watering containers. Self-watering containers water themselves if the reservoir is filled according to manufacturer's directions. So, why do you water daily? And what did you fill the pot with? Ground soil? Potting soil? A special recipe of your own? Or ...? Then, too, do you check the moisture content of the growing medium? Some potting ixes don't wick up water bery well.

This is a voulnteer. I had plums, cherries and beef steaks last year..but I can't recall the names. I got them from a small nursery that did sell heirloom, along with hybrids. I remember trying to select heirloom types versus hybrid. And I rememer that the beefsteak grew pretty large, and wasn't super red when ripe. And it wasnt a perfect "round shape".. **** OK, so it's a volunteer and so any named variety we might come up with is out. Do you remember if any of the varieties you grew last year had potato leaf foliage as opposed to the more frequently seen regular foliage? Other than knowing if any of your varieties last year were PL, and without you being able to remember the names of the varieties you did grow I do think it's going to be impossible to ID what you have, not just to variety but as you asked originally, as to whether it's going to be a cherry or not. And a couple of us have said why we don't think it's a cherry and why, but I do hope you'll come back and tell us how it's developing and what it turned out to be b'c unless you grew a PL variety last year this plant is probably the result of a cross pollination and what you're growing is an F1 hybrid plant. And even that is dicey, meaning the X pollination, b'c in order to get a PL plant from random X pollination both parents would have to be heterozygous for the PL gene, ......, etc,but I'm going too far now, in trying to explain that which is really not necessary to try and explain. LOL What's important is how do you like what you eventually get from this plant. Carolyn

Unfortunately I think you're right, everything I've searched for so far points to herbicide damage. It's completely my own fault too I think. I thought I was careful and and was avoiding drift. Thanks for the sites though they're really helpful. I still can't figure out if my plants are salvageable or if I should tear them out and plant new. I don't want to keep growing them if they've been permanently damaged or unsafe to consume.

Most likely citrus leaf miner. Tiny moths lay eggs on the underside of the leaves - one egg per leaf. The eggs hatch and the larvae burrow between the layers of the leaves, causing deformation and leaving squiggly trails. Unsightly, but not deadly unless it affects a large percentage of the leaves. The eggs are only laid on new growth, so you're better off pruning only once a year. If you keep trimming the ugly leaves off, new ones will grow and attract more miners. They are seasonal, so they're eventually go away. Spray doesn't do much because the larvae are inside the leaves. Some people use an imidacloprid (sp?) drench, but I wouldn't use a systemic insecticide on something I was going to eat. Bottom line - ignore it. Next year you can also try a pheremone trap placed away from the tree.
