I am curious if anyone suggestions regarding a good vine or ivy to grow up and into a trellis. I am looking for something that is evergreen and semi evergreen. Fast grower, flowers optional. The areas I would like to have the plant are full shade, shade, to full sun. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I like the yellow creeping Jenny and given that it is in boxes it won't become invasive. I've planted the boxes with painted fern, heuchera, artisimia and little pansies and so far it looks quite pretty. I haven't been able to find the variegated ivy so am starting some in the house. Given our deer problem though, I'm having to spray it with Bobex continuously. Plastic plants are starting to look good...

Two evergreen vines I have, here in a zone 7b garden, are Gelsemium sempervirens and Clematis armandi. Have no idea if they would do well with you. The Gelsemium is extremely vigorous. The Clematis only arrived this Spring but is growing beautifully. I do not know if it will pull through a Winter, here. I think the hazard with Akebia is not merely seedlings, but it's ability to run underground and sprout many feet from where the desired plant is growing. Mine is only two years old, so has not done so, yet.

in mild winters , mine keeps most of it leaves. The discrepancy might be in the character of the winters in Texas compared to PNW. We have much milder weather most of the time and the BANG we get a huge 60 degree drop in a day and then mild again. Usually we will have 3 of these cold fronts. This year we had one. I swam many times in January in the neighboring river. It started to loose some leaves in January briefly around that realy strong cold front and then was actively growing again soon after. You guys get cold and stay coldish for awhile. More time to loose more leaves. We , in Texas, are in a PNW summer right now.. Have been for awhile. Tomatoes are ripening.
