A few of my Morning Glories

I thought I would post a link rather than bog down the whole thread of some of the Morning Glories I've had so far. Most of them are purpureas and a few Nil. The Japanese ones seem to be slow going this year for me. I hope to have a lot to trade at the end of the season!!

Beautiful pics, but who are they? Poor things, they are nameless. Be they would love to have their names showing on their pics. LOL>

LOL! Fran...they are all purpurea crosses of either, Rebbecca, Joyce Cobb, and Milky Way. I am reluctant to give them any name since they can never truly be identified!! I guess when it comes time to trade if I have specific ones I will make up a name!

I love the Gayfeather. It's very pretty! And yes, the first is a winner! Mine are just sprouting since I did not winter sow them. With a late freeze a few weeks ago and the unseasonably cold temperatures we've been having in the last few days (went down to 5C last night), I know I made the right decision in sowing them now. Remember the Hibiscus Red Shield I asked you about? They did sprout, but all died from cold expect for one. It's struggling but it's a trooper! Please post pics when your MGs are 'up there'. We want to see the show at a later date too!

Oh, they'll be back. I'd leave them until Spring,.. then cut whatever parts don't get buds. Alternatively, you can cut them low now and have all new growth in spring.

Sounds like a 4 footed critter is enjoying your morning glory vines. I would put my bets on a chipmunk as the culprit. In the past, I have had the same problem. What i have found is hanging windchimes around the plants at a very low level keeps the critters away. I have a collection of really cheap ones that I've gotten at dollar stores and use those. The other thing is those vines that where chewed off will be fine. You will soon find new stems branching out from where the pieces was taken off. It's sort of like a critter pinching your vine for you instead of you doing it yourself. Fran

Ah ha, tis what I thought. They sort of look like this one, sort of look like that one, sort of look like none we've seen before, but they sure are pretty and the fun will be, seeing what they produce next year.

Sometimes I've found they stay stable or stay stable for a few years and sometimes they aren't stable at all or after a few years, it's a brand new bloom.

I've got one of those that just isn't stable and never know what it will bloom, except that it stays a purple shade with white. It's some kind of variant of a MT Fuji purple, resembles but different.

First year bloomed one way.
second year bloomed different
this year a third change, and bloomed today, but didn't get outside in time to get a pic of the this years bloom.

Really waiting to see on this MG this year what I really will get from 3 vines from last years on this one.
I've only grown one vine the last 2 years. This year decided to do a couple and see what happens. 3 vines going, but only 1 has bloomed so far.

Good morning

Ronnie they are beautiful...Love the third one how neat... I really like learning from all of you... Fran I didnt know they did all that...They cant decide what they want to be when they grow up..lol Thank you for sharing them Ronnie..:)

Just waiting for mine to start blooming. My Grandpa ott's has started am now waiting for all the others. Can't wait!

P.S. My Grandpa Ott's ( I think that's what it is ) reseeded itself from last year and it looks the same. It looks like it didn't cross with any of the other varieties.
