I would vote for L. japonica although I went out to my fence and was unsuccessful trying to find an instance of 3 leaves. What I did find was a lot of variability. These photos all came from chunks I ripped from the same vine. 1 2 3 4 5 In pic 3, you can see the radically different leaves from 2 adjacent nodes. (And no, I'm not growing this stuff on purpose, 4 neighbors bordering me leave their side of the fence "natural" and it just visits me.)

I don't know if this is true or not but I always imagined that bulbs "suck in" nutrients from dying leaves that are no longer needed. Bulbs seem to get noticeably plumper while the leaves are dying and they are going dormant. I have yanked garlic out of the ground while it was herbacious, left it to dry on a counter in the dark inside, and the bulbs definitely got bigger/rounder as the leaves died. I also saw an experiment where a grass seed was planted in soil that was completely devoid of phosphorus, a vital nutrient. As the plant grew, it always put out the next leaf exactly as the previous leaf was dying, so that it could recycle the phosphorus. Finally the plant bloomed, produced a single seed, and died as that seed plumped up. So I would move them into dormancy while leaves are still on them, and just pull the leaves off when they yellow and come right off with only the slightest tug.

You can tell if its Little Bluestem by checking the base where the blades start. If they are flat, like an iris, its bluestem. Some have very blue spring/summer foliage color and the seed heads are especially nice if backlit by late afternoon sun and for winter interest. It does seed about a lot though, I deadhead mine in late winter when they start to really shatter.

Mommyfox, Did you check your first post on this shrub? We guessed photinia and I feel pretty confident that's what it is. I just cut one down, not because I didn't like it, but because the previous owner who planted it and several other trees had no concept of how their ultimate size and location would impact other trees or the house. I had a forest of trees right up on the house! And one was a photinia which is extremely hardy, fast growing, prolific, with pretty rusty red leaves. It grew to about 12 feet. So if you want to keep it in that location you might want to move your shed a few feet over to the right now, before it gets any bigger. Or you can trim it back every couple of years to keep it more of a shrub. I'll bet you've seen them around, used as privacy hedges. The roots tend to run very deep and hang on for dear life, so it might be difficult to move even at this stage.
