Probably one of the most important things to me would be, "How do they taste Jay?" In the previous thread you did not think that the taste would be in your top 20, but I was wondering (hoping) that the taste would have improved as the season wore on and the weather warmed. I do not know if the rain has let up some in your neck of the woods, but we are still getting too much here.

It would be great if a variety that productive happened to taste very good and be a stable strain.

Jay, I read thru the old thread and this one as well, and while I may have missed it b'c I was scanning rapidly, I don't think you've ever said what the origin of the seeds/plant was.

And I still think some of the comments made in that original thread are perfectly valid.

With so many so called black varieties out there I know I wouldn't want to try and ID a variety from a picture that has nothing unique showing. Sigh. ( smile)

Hi Tom, the fruits are solid in the middle and more filled out like a regular tomato. I think those first few fruit with the tear drop shape were just rogue fruits due to climate, etc. or this variety might not yet be completely stable. I can report that the flavor has improved to the point where it is very good. However, I believe it is necessary to sample the fruits when they are very ripe - almost to the point of being over ripe.

Hey Bill, as mentioned above, I would rate the flavor very good. I'll be saving fruit from most pictured on the plate above and hope to make seed available. I'm already fermenting seed from a batch I saved earlier. We have had a lot of rain here but fortunately, it's been reasonable distributed over the past month or so. I've been holding my breath on getting a bunch of split fruit but it never happend and I think only about 10 fruit or less actually split due to excessive rain.

natural, it's not Black Cherry. Black Cherry is much smaller and very round in shape. As Jim mention in the other thread, along with him I wanted to lean towards Black as well but the fruit don't meet the average weight of Black and the "tear drop" effect that some fruit have don't really match either.

Christy, I'll make seed available at some point this summer. I didn't receive your emails...took another look a while ago but did not see them. I've read many folks mentioning the difficulty with sending email via GW. I sent Fusion email a couple of months or so ago via GW and it made it through. I'll try sending you one.

It showed up out of my black variety seed starting tray. It doesn't match any of what I started seed of and would have had to have come out of a Black Krim packet as that was what the cell was labeled on my seed starting tray but then you never know. I start about three seeds per cell and then thin down to one so I'm assuming the others would have come out the same way or I was real lucky (LOL).

All of the other varieties in my black variety seed starting tray were large beefsteak types.

Thanks Jay, sounds better all the time. When the time comes, let me know and I will send a SASE. Hopefully I will be around another season to try them out.

The strangeness (is that a word) of the season continues as the season wears on. I have only had two tomatoes show any signs of rot at all, that was the two resting against each other, held water droplets and rotted on the sides. I have yet to have ANY split, regardless of extreme amounts of rain. Tomatoes have set on most varieties, some have bunches of tomatoes on them, some still have none. The two Maxifort have flowered and flowered, but have yet to set a single tomato. Right now the ones that have set the most have been the Merced, Jet Star, Big Beefsteak, Porterhouse and Ugly. While I plan on cutting back quite a bit next year on what I plant, they deserve a place in my garden. Of the two Mr. Bruno from Australia side by side, one has lots of yellow leaves, the other very few. The jury is still out on several other varieties at present.

Even the local grape growers / wine makers have been on T.V. complaining that their grapes have started rotting on the vine because they can not apply the fungicide that they need to.

Hello everyone and thanks for the compliments. No, they were not washed...they are just a very juicy tomato and get this....as of today I have harvested 167 total fruit from this single plant. I might break 200 but I don't know....it will be close. I am seeing some variances in the fruit shape but 95% of them are the same shape.

Johnny seeds sells a variety called 'Black Prince' that looks similar to these.

I've grown Black Prince and have it in the garden this year, it's not BP. Good guess though...some of the fruits do appear similiar though much smaller. Nyagous is considerably larger than what I'm seeing. The shape is comparable with some of these fruit.

Currently I'm drying the first batch of fermented seed. Once I perform a germination test, I'll make a seed offer here.
