Vine placement sun vs. sun/shade

Hi,

I made the mistake of going to the garden center yesterday and came home with 3 new vines, I have 2 spots in full sun and 1 spot with morning sun and afternoon shade, but I'm not sure which vine will like the shade best. The 3 vines are: bleeding heart vine, black eyed susan vine and pink jasmine. Which one should I put in the shady spot? Any suggestions?

If its the yellow bleeding heart vine (Dicentra Scandens), Im quite jealous of you right now...I managed to get my hands on seeds for it, but cant tell if they actually germinated or if weeds did.
But I would THINK since most Dicentra's prefer shade or morning sun, that would be the one to put there. Then again, I dont know if the vine would be different.
Im a newbie to gardening, but for some reason I am completely obsessed with Dicentras! I'm trying to obtain all the varities.

As for the other 2, I really dont know. You can google it or you can try to use the search feature on GW and see what pops up.

Hope you get some more advice from a more experienced gardener than myself. =)

Hi,

Thanks for the info. But don't be too jealous, its not yellow, the flowers are white and red. :) I don't have the exact name though. I am fairly new to gardening too, but I am obsessed with fuchsias and vines. I have the same problem with the coral vine, which I have unsuccessfully tried to start from seed twice! Oh well, one of these days...

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. There's nothing wrong with the wisteria, I just bought it. In planting it I realized there is not as much sun as I thought and was wondering what is exactly considered a full sun area? 6 hours of direct sun, I know. That is what I have right now, but it is mid summer. Will this be adequate sun for my full sun choices in this spot, including the wisteria, year round? laceyvail, the house is brick and the walls are covered with trellis. I was hoping the wisteria would cover the wall and reach around the side porch overhang. there is a lot of space for it to cover. I do plan on being diligent about the pruning. But I'll admit, I bought it without properly investigating it and am a bit daunted after reading all the posts on wisteria! :

Clematis armandii, an evergreen clematis would be nice. They have this on an arbor near where I live at Aldridge Gardens, in dappled shade, and it is a gorgeous vine, IMO. I grow an oriental climbing-hydrangea type vine called Schizophragma "Moonlight." Climbing hydrangea type plants are also lovely but you have to patient for a few years + before they take off and start to fill in and bloom. Coral honeysuckles. Mine are evergreen, bloom almost all year and hummingbirds love them.

I'm pulling out a japanese honeysuckle this weekend. It's against a cement block wall, about six feet high. I want to put another vine in, preferably fragrant, that will do well in an area that gets full sun in summer, bright shade in winter. Any suggestions for something fragrant, evergreen, and not invasive? Thanks very much!

Mine doesn't have any flowers at the moment, but if you look up Clerodendrum thomsoniae in the database, there is a picture, I think that is it. I hope mine grows to be that beautiful.
