The only bad disease tomato I ever grew was Brandywine. I go visit all the nurseries this spring buying tomato plants and in every single one of these professional nurseries with beautiful tomato plants always and every time the Brandywine is the only diseased and horrible dieing tomato.

Why anyone grows Brandywine is beyond me.

star, which specific diseases are you referring to when you say this or that variety is resistant?

Are you talking about foliage diseases, and if so, which ones? Almost everyone has problems with those, and they include Early Blight ( A. solani), Septoria Leaf Spot, Bacterial Speck and Bacterial Spot. There are no good resistance genes for any of them which is why they're so common.

I have several friends who grow tomatoes in NC, including my brother who is a friend most of the time, LOL, and I know you have both foliage and systemic diseases, such as Fusarium and friends there and I think it would be very helpful to others if they knew which diseases you were referring to.

Disease that plague my garden are Early Blight and Septoria. Usually, most tomatoes I grow show some signs of either or both, but most tomatoes I keep, after an annual spring culling, are ones that will tolerate, by outgrowing, those two diseases. One can only pray for a warm, breezy, relatively dry June, and so far we've had that.

The most tolerant tomatoes thus far this year include:

I don't think I've ever found a variety 100% resistant to Septoria, but the 3 that come the closest for me are West Virginia '63, Ananas Noir and Indian Stripe.

Varieties that succumbed early to either Septoria or Early Blight included:

Cowlick's Brandywine
Amazon Chocolate
Barlow (although I have one plant out of a dozen that made it and is now doing great)
Dana's Dusky Rose
Traveller 76 (again, one plant out of a dozen showed superior tolerance)
and several dwarves which chronically show low tolerance

Two plants that are succumbing in the past two days to something I have never seen in my garden before (hope it's not late blight!) are Top Sirloin and Buisson. Keeping an eye on those two, but I think they'll both be yanked within 12 hours.

Meanwhile, think I'll scrounge around in the garage for some Daconil. I know I got an old can of that somewhere that I used to spray on that ornamental peach ...

Hi Carolyn, I guess I was referring to any and all diseases that plague tomato plants...Fungal, bacterial, viruses, etc. I probably should have titled 'Which diseases have you detected in your garden so far this season....and on which plants?' The most common in my garden are Leaf Mold, Early Blight, and Powdery Mildew, on all my plants. I realize that there are no good resistance genes for most diseases. Luckily, I am finding that several of my plants are untouched ...but we'll see how summer goes...

Thanks for posting your list, Hoosiercherokee. I plan on growing Indian Stripe next year. Like you phrased it, 'tolerant,' makes more sense than 'resistant.'

2009 was a much more disease ridden season than this year has been. It was cool and rainy until halfway thru July last year.

I should mention that Druzba and Red Brandywine Landis were two tomatoes that showed strong tolerance to Septoria and Early Blight with very little spotting on the leaves and none on the fruit and low leaf loss at all.

This is just for my garden, others (I'm sure) may have different experiences.

Top 5 Most Disease Resistant (so far):
1.) NAR - Nothing bothering it, no early blight, no leaf spot or speck, nothing. Plants look robust, picture perfect examples of RL tomato plants.
2.) Red Brandywine - No issues with any form of blight or leaf spot / speck so far.
3.) Rutgers - No issues so far with any disease or fungal infections.
4.) Andrew Rahart's Jumbo Red - No issues thus far, good early fruit-set.
5.) Brandywine Sudduths - Early in the season had some lower leaves with EB, seems to have gone away for the time being, plants doing great.

Top 5 Least Resistant (so far):
1.) Abe Lincoln - Has some sort of baceterial spot / speck scattered over some of the leaves. It's the only plant that has this symptom. My father is growing the same variety which also developed a similar condition. So far, it's not severely defoliating the plant or affecting it's productivity, however.
2.) Aunt Ruby's German Green - Has some sort of disease which is attacking the lowest leaves. Infection appears to be minor, most offending leaves have been stripped off, doesn't seem to be impacting productivity.
3.) Hillbilly Potato Leaf - Issues with early blight. All EB leaves stripped off, plant sprayed. No real decent fruit-set yet.
4.) Aunt Ginnys Purple - Had early issues with LB, plants were a little slow initially now appear to be catching back up to the rest.
5.) Black from Tula - Had some early issues with some sort of wilt - but has since recovered and is loaded with fruit.

So far this season I've had 2 plants I've had to yank due to disease. They were Striped German and Pineapple. I've had some other problems with stunted growth and lesser developed plants, which probably had more to do with planting too early than with disease. But my strongest plants this year are:

Paul Robeson
Chocolate Stripes
Goose Creek
Green Zebra
and, Yellow Submarine.
