hardening off transplants

karendee

I bought a few transplants. I am hardening them off because they were in a protected area when I purchased them.

I live in Zone 5 so Mother's day is the earliest I plant things around here.

I currently have the plants in my garage by a sunny window. I have been placing them outside to harden off some. I have been doing this only an hour or so each day because it has been colder and windy (50's or 60's)

One day I just left in garage with the window cracked.

My questions,

Is it ok to keep them in the unheated garage for a week or week and a half? (when they are not outside hardening off)

Should I move to my warmer home with a light and fan?

Also, if they go outside everyday for a week will that be enough?

I also have been giving them a small drink of water (and worm tea) each day because they were getting dry.

Do I stop watering? I was afraid they would dry out due to the wind.

I have read about hardening off but I am not sure...

Thanks,

Karen

Here are the plants I bought

Sweet 100

Mr Stripey

Pink Brandywine

Big Beef

Bush Early Girl

I will buy more in the future and I want to harden off correctly.
