blue moon wisteria - buds eaten by what??

I bought bluemoon wisteria couple of weeks back that was in 1gallon pot and the plant was 2ft tall with several buds. I planted the plant next to my deck and was doing good. yesterday I checked on the plant and all the buds were eaten and some of the leaves were eaten too. I thought deers do not eat wisteria, and am wondering if bunny's ate them, how can they reach a plant that is staked and 2ft ht to eat the buds. Not sure what animal chewed on the plant. I was so happy when I bought the plant and can't wait for the 2 inch long flower buds to open into flowers. If anyone had similar experience, please share on any tips to save the plant from these animals. The funny thing, whatever ate the wisteria did not touch anything else in my garden, lilies, roses, etc. Now I am having 2nd thoughts of moving the plant into a planter onto my deck until it grows 3/4ft then move into ground.
