Comments (10)I wonder what would happen to the ph of the rivers and streams if everyone used acid on their lawns?? Probably everything would improve because vinegar is a carbohydrate that soil microbes need. Currently a lot of people in the east use lime on their soil. Is that similar to what you're asking? "Organic"....yea whatever. A much abused word.... If you want to see a fight rage, go to an organic forum and start a discussion on the definition of organic. "Hey look at me I'm so good I'm trying to save everyone by using my enormous knowledge to save the environment." And...this is a problem...why? But trust me, there is no enormous body of knowledge in the world of organic gardening or farming. Simply stopping the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides requires no knowledge at all. The alternative to chemicals, using organic fertilizer, similarly requires no knowledge. Possibly the biggest problem with converting is forcing yourself to forget everything you thought you knew about gardening. No matter who you are in this country, if you have any knowledge of gardening, then you have an NPK mentality. With organics, NPK really has no meaning. Yet organic gardeners still talk about applying so many pounds of nitrogen every year. Why? Because NPK is drummed into your head in every book, magazine/newspaper article, advertising, college course, and government pamphlet....See MoreOrganic way to get rid of Bermuda grass
Comments (156)No one asking anyone to read ALL those replies. If you do not want to know what we know, skip our replies. On a new thread or topic, we will come over & reply & you will be back where you are now. jolj(7b/8a) henry, I am going to try solarization on my bahia grass. 90% of the things on this thread will not eradicate bahia grass. This includes round up, which kills the tops, but not the deep roots. Round up will not kill nut sage/ nut grass or common dew berry vines. So I will try this on the bahia. I have heard that the solarization may kill the soil food web, when it kills the weeds. I am planning to sheet compost the beds after I kill the grass/ weeds. I have been told that tilling kills the soil food web. Not sure who is right or if it matters, I give vegetables away every season including the winter. I grow more then I can use, then I must be doing something right. Comments (7)If your containers aren't too large, place them on their sides, and gently pour water over the plants while running your fingers along the plant stems and leaves to knock(and squish)the aphids off. If you wash them into the containers they will find their way back up on the plant. If you do this regularly it should reduce the damage over time. In the mean time, take a cutting or two and root them in moist potting mix or seed starting mix or sand to get more plants started for your kitties. Once they root, plant them in a container away from the others.HTH...See MoreAnyone have aphid problems
Comments (5)Coolaces--- I forgot to tell you that I also did some jet blasting with a spray bottle when I did see aphids after I sprayed with the citrus. You might need to use the citrus a couple of times and spray the entire plant and under leaves too. I didnt think the spray was working since I was still seeing a few aphids after using it. You just have to be vigilant about using the stuff, maybe use it 3 or 4 times, it does work. I cut off anything that looked damaged or even suspicious maybe even some that was ok. Good luck....See Moredigdirt2
