I have a really awkward space just outside my front door. Hopefully you can see the pictures I am attaching. It is a 13 x 13 ft semi enclosed area, almost atrium like, with a brick wall on one side, a window on one side, and two open sides. Having lived for many years in Louisiana, my first thought was to enclose this area with a low fence and put a fountain in the middle, maybe espalier a vine on the brick wall ( assuming I can figure out how to do so) and make it into a courtyard. I've been trying to find some inspiration pictures to get some ideas, but haven't had any luck.

Other than that idea, I haven't got a clue. It really needs a focal point, but I can't plant anything too tall, or it will block the view and light into the dining room.

I've called three "landscapers" in the last month and I was really disappointed with their lack of vision and lack of originality. Any thoughts? I'd like to make it look a little more interesting when guests walk to my front door. Thanks!
