Mangos under Halide lights?

OhioJay reports that he grows tropicals, including mango trees, under a 1000 w Halide light, first in a light room, and now has a greenhouse. How close can the Halide light be to the trees, without burning them? I have a 1000w light and several new condo mango trees, but the trees sent me are pretty big. I donÂt want to burn them by getting them too close. The halide light gets pretty hot, and needs to be a safe distance from the ceiling, at least a foot, so can only be raised so high. The Dom Haus portable greenhouse would be fine for my other frost sensitive plants, but the mango trees might be too big. It was 36 degrees outside yesterday. I lost some plants in the freeze last year, and don't want it to happen again. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
