I am not from Austin but for Comal County most of the recommended fruit varieties are between 600-700 hours..I would suggest getting with the Master Gardeners or Ag. extension (now call Texas agri-life)folks for Travis County as to recommended varieties and by going over these you will know the chill hours for your area. Micro-climates in and out of the city can vary it 100+ hours. Because I am in a cold area here in Comal County I look at 650-750 chill hours as being more reasonable. Thank you for the link you provided, it's extremely useful. I also appreciate you taking time to post to my thread. I have a few other questions. It says to enter the 'start date' for when the chill hours start and the'end date' for when the chill hours end. I am new to Brooksville Florida, so I have no idea what the dates are for when the chill hours start and end here. It doesn't have to be exact, just an idea of what months the chill hours start in, and what month the chill hours end in for the Brooksville FL would suffice. Could you please help me with this? Also there are a ton of different low chill peach trees.....some have a range of 200-250 others have a range of like 250-350....so I have no idea what types of low chill trees would grow best here....what range would be the most suitable for them with chill hours and some are have very low chill requirements, like 100-150 chill hours. So I am not sure whether to pick the higher range (250-350 or 200-250) or the lower range (100-150)

I don't grow fruit trees, but still pretty interesting to see how much of a difference north/south FL is! And then this location, every where else followed a pattern, but them!

Rather astounding at the flagrant dismissal some can give to documented evidence - not just babble back anecdotal reports - at the risks involved in indefinitely delaying dormancy of temperate zone plants! We are not talking about all the number of many species on the planet, only those that are native to temperate regions of the globe where a necessary period of dormancy is part of their genetic biological make up. And I could also suggest that rather than tossing about cheap (and unsubstantiated) statements such as "the other person is, quite bluntly, completely wrong and unable to change their minds and update their knowledge with some research" that the poster do their own research, as they appear to be grossly uninformed. Even any reputable bonsai site will state the same. Completely wrong?? So then I guess is the vast majority of the rest of the population!! Just a little arrogance happening here.
