what kind of diet do birds have? i don't know much about them and i might have gotten a name of someone that has a bird. if i do, i'd rather send what the bird would want, rather than what i think. and if i don't have the name of someone with a bird, someone does and they sure want to know as well!

While DH was alive we had LOTS of birds. The commercial bird diets are designed according to size of the bird. Fruits and veggies are great for birds. Our conures (mediun size birds) loved pasta, any type but spirals and spagetti are fun. Nuts in the shell are good too, and toys are often needing to be replaced as they get chewed up.
Birds are terrific pets and the gals with birds can add personal ideas to this very general list.
Charlie's favorite bird was often refered to as "a monkey in a feather suit". He did tricks and sang on command from the boss. For me he might do it if he felt like it. I was mostly the provider of food and he knew that. Smart old bugger.

Oh My goodness Sue. I am so sorry. Bless your heart sweet friend. You will be in my prayers for your back to heal as well.

it has been a huge lost . Deni had me trained up at 5 am bed time or lay back time by 9pm cuddling time ,
she was a cuddler . she was only 12 yrs old I had her for 8 yrs .
anyway after allot of thought I ask vee if I could join agin for I still Have Dj his birthday was today july 30th he turned 8 yrs old today :))) now I can give him more one on one time he really misses deni they would feed each other. funny to watch them .
so girls I'm back in the robin and ready to play :)) .

where is everyone?

I mailed a package this morning so it should arrive at "someone's house" soon... I won't say to whom... I'll let the recipient post when she gets it. We had been having lots of rain but the sun is out today. It's nice to see sunshine, but I know it means higher temperatures, too.
Anyway, I mailed early because I will be visiting with my daughter soon. If my package comes while I am gone, my husband will be here; but if it hasn't been mailed yet and if not all packed up, you might wait a week or ten days to mail so it won't be sitting out in the sun for half a day - that's how my packages get delivered when no one is home. Luckily it hasn't ever rained on one - the mail carrier must check the weather report. LOL

Mollie likes everything, toys are good but she really likes treats! (Just like the rest of us! :)

For me, I have a place for just about anything. I like natives and woodlands, flowers for hummingbirds and butterflies are great too. I have a greenhouse and so start lots of seeds for both annuals and perennials. I happen to be looking for lilyturf any color or type.

I can't join this swap since I don't have a pet, but I enjoyed looking at the pictures of everyone's pets. Sue, I'm so sorry about your dog. My 8 year old, 1/2 chow Harmony was shot by my neighbor 5 months ago. She was like a third kid to me & I still miss her (& I haven't forgiven the neighbor). We've got 2 mixed-breed dogs I'm trying to give away because the kids aren't spending any time with & I'm constantly after them about feeding them & making sure they have water. After seeing all those pictures of those birds, I'm thinking I may want one! LOL! I ran across an ad in the local paper you guys may like. I personally think the bride dress & the Harley Davidson outfits are a hoot.

wow kathy, i'm so sorry about your dog. shot by a neighbor...i sure hope it was an accident. we had a pup that died so i can relate how sad it is.

sue's pet that died was a bird, not a dog. it's the picture of the white one somewhere in the middle of this thread.

if you were closer to me, i'd take the dogs you are trying to give away. but from what i hear, birds are a lot of work and you might be better off taking care of the dogs before you invest in a bird.

again i ask...where is everyone? hiding from the heat?

the dog days of summer sure are upon us, and there hasn't been any let up, and doesn't appear there will be anytime soon. there was an upbeat to today though, I believe i am the first to receive my package and what a wonderful one it is.

the first thing i saw when i opened the box was tissue paper with dog paws on it. how neat. there was a wonderful letter written by my pal and such a wonderful introduction into her world. i so appreciate your sharing that with me. continued success and blessings are sent your way :)

now for our goodies. I not only got me a new garden visor, but to boot, there's the cutest little dog pin attached to it. also in my box are garden gloves and a very nice plant water bottle/mister, which i so appreciate. it's quite decorative and it also has measurements on it, which will be excellent when adding to the bottle. this one i will be sure to keep as a mister. every time i get these bottles, i wind up putting in some cleaning concoction and then i don't have a mister anymore. so this one will be kept for the right purpose.

i also got a great jigsaw puzzle of a field of flowers. just in time to take up the mountains with me this weekend. i'm hoping for some weather relief.

there was a smiley face charm that i can add to hazel's collar (she really jingles with all the stuff around her!), a bag full of dog bones personally packaged and labeled, and a package of daily smart bite treats (which she is enjoying one right now).

there are gummy worms (which my son claimed and asked that i "please thank your garden lady for these, they are the good ones"). there are sticky bug notes and a post card from south carolina! what a wonderful package.

now here's the funny part. my letter said that my pal was unable to send any plants because it's certainly been the dog days of summer and the heat has been unbearable to go out and dig (I can relate). well, here i am recyling the tissue paper and the packing peants and low and behold there's a bag at the bottom of the box and inside are coconut thyme (which i have never heard of) - what a nice addition to the several thymes i already have. a yellow lollipop daylily (one i don't already have) and wisteria cuttings, which i have already dipped into the rooting hormone, so we will keep our fingers crossed. i'll do some reading on these and hope for the best.

wouldn't you know it, i find an e-mail that my pal sent to me to tell me there was a little break in the weather, so she was able to dig up a few things. before i saw that e-mail and found those plants in the box, for a quick minute i thought my pal recycled her box and didn't realize plants were in there and if they were on their second leg, wow, what stamina! (like i said, i only had the thought for a quick minute...i admit, i'm strange that way)

i don't know if we are supposed to keep our pals secret until everyone gets their boxes, so i'll just say a VERY BIG THANK YOU for such a wonderful box of goddies. you certainly are an "ark" angel with a beautiful heart.

carol, this was a great idea for a swap and thanks for the opportunity to participate.

looking forward to what everyone receives and will post who my pal was once i get clearance from the head dog!

Arthur (my Pug) is KING for a day!

He received his wonderful box from Carol last night and the other dogs are soooooooo jealous.
He got lots for his bad breath (how did you know?) toothbrush and toothpaste, a greenie, rawhide treates and a big rawhide rope bone, doggy shampoo, beef stix treates and a cute ladybug dog leash and collar (Artie loves ladybugs). His mama got garden knee pads (how did you know about my bad knees?)little children pot huggers (so cute!)a picture frame and apple scented lotion.

My pal will be getting her box at the beginning of the week, hope she's as excited as Arthur was!

Nyvoices , I was about to start looking for a missing box I hadnt heard you say you recieved it . thank you for letting me know it arrived safly .

well, i have my pal's pet's part of this swap ready to go. as for digging, i am going no where near a shovel until this weather breaks. unless of course we can bypass plants and go for other garden and/or personal items. if that's the case, i can get mine out this week.

what is everyone else doing that is faced with this horrendous heat?

I dig early morning or late evening & wrap in wet towels
then in newspaper seem to work out best for me this pass week.

The month is going fast, so get those boxes mailed. my new pup came home saturday, and is chewing on everything including my feet, which seem to be her favorite. she is 8 wks old and 4 times the size of my pups. mamma dog is ok with her.

Thankyou Askew, Tiyli and I are both in doggie heaven, Tiyli got a couple of toys, Mamma got a cute little tote, cherry cheeks daylily, body wash seed pkts,homemade, cards with orchid pics, there are some cute pastel doggie bones that we don't know if they are for mommy or tiyli they smell real good also some gormet chocolates and pecan pralineshere is tiyli with one of her new toys, cool maybe she will quit biting on my foot. Thankyou we love our goodies.

I received some really great gifts from my pal and so did Lady. Lady got a plush squeaky dog toy. It's a black dog with an orange jacket that says Search and Rescue Dog. $1.00 from the purchase of this toy goes to the search and rescue dogs across America. How cool!!!! My pal sent me some Tranquil Moments aromatherapy foaming bath salts. These will be wonderful in our jacuzzie tub. Along with that she also sent a cut little watering can with painted flowers on it plus a wooden flower box with wooden flowers and a wooden butterfly in it. It is very pretty and colorful. Now for the plants!!! I received a Karmina hardy geranium--one that I did not have. She sent some Japanese variegated grass--I just googled it, and I will be VERY, VERY happy with it. Another plant I received is Jacob Cline bee balm another bee balm that I don't have. Pal you did a great job a choosing items that I don't have. The final item she sent is an Oriental lily bulb. I will be looking forward to seeing what color it is next summer when it blooms. Dear pal, I know who you are, but just in case we are supposed to keep this quiet I won't tell others who you are yet. Just know that I LOVED everything that you sent and that you can count yourself as one of the most generous and thoughtful pals. Mary Ellen/Mellen

We are having great weather this week. It was on;y 74 here today I do believe. The high is 83 for most of the week! Yeah!!!!

I was joking also but I sure got the ressponses, so looks like most boxes are going out, good I don't want to lose any teeth trying to bite someone. just have fun and enjoy getting those boxes out.I tried to feed some of the pastel treats to dh but he wouldn't bite, tiyli loves them tho. thankyou for the wonderful box sue. I was out of scented body wash so loved the milk and honey wash.

i rather enjoy getting bitten myself, but that's just me LOL

Your excitement brought tears to my eyes! How sweet! I am so very glad that you & Hosannah enjoyed everything. I fell in love with that Flamingo toy and thought of Hosannah right away when I saw it. I found the notepaper/pad/pencil & woofles at a wonderful "gourmet" dog & cat shop in the area.
The metal dog w/spots is actually my dog "Oreo". He's a Dalmation. : ) Thought you might like him.
You don't know how happy I am that you don't have that Geranium. I collect them as well and I had no clue as to which one to send you. : )

OH,oh Dirtpig got her box today..happy happy joy joy.

and for me she sent all kinds of stuff for my poor alittle feet..LOL..a foot brush,foot soap,mineral foot soak,botanical foot soak and vitamin e and sunflower oil moisturizer..to to kewl..What a WONDERFULL box of fun!!
Man I almost forgot..and I'm playing with too..lol..a roller thingie for my feet too..and yes I put it under my desk :-)
