Last year I grew 277A,Vision,Northern SS,and Mirai 421.All were good although Northern SS is an older SH2 and I mainly grew it becauase it is about the earliest SH2.The newer augmented SS are better. We liked 421,Vision,and 277A.My family still prefers 277A.They always ask me when the bicolor 277A is ready,even though the others are earlier. One more positive about 277A is that a lot of the stalks have 2 ears,with 18-20 rows of small great tasting kernels.Not so for earlier varieties.This year I am planting all 3 of them again plus the white How Sweet It Is.But if I could only plant 1 it would be 277A. I will be tranplanting Vision and will be starting them in jiffy pots this weekend.My goal is always to get a good corn ready to eat in July.With Northern SS I made it last year on July 29.

I am new to planting and growing pawpaws. I will be planting my first ones this Spring. I ordered 4 KSU Atwoods (SKU 2710) and 4 KSU Benson (SKU 2711) trees today for April delivery in Petoskey, Michigan. Like Matt, I would like to know more about these KSU varieties. Size?, Taste, rate of growth, productivity. I ordered them from One Green World in Portland - these were the only Peterson varieties they had available. I may call One Green World tomorrow to ask them these questions but I thought someone on this site might be willing to share their experience or to share what they have heard. I am opening up a standing 2 acre cedar tree lot and have room for more pawpaws ao, when available, I may add several other Peterson varieties this Fall. Any advice or comments would be appreciated. - Bob Wiley

Reviving this awesome apple thread. I was reading through what I posted and I am amused by how quickly things change. at least half of the apples I listed have fallen off my own list. I've grafted over most of my spigold because it's really not that good after all. Mutsu is also somewhat uninteresting these days. Here is my new list of favorites: - coconut crunch is extraordinary in our climate and keeps really well - sinta, fruited for the first time last Fall, delicious strong pineapple flavor - Fiesta, really good for a Summer apple - Williams pride, my tastiest Summet apple after Viking - Orin, great storage apple that still has that tropical pineapple flavor in March - alkmene, yummy summer August apple that tastes lime a cox but even better - kidds orange red, superb in the Fall - Haralson, fruits well here in California and its good - transparente de cronkels, delicious and high quality I still love gravenstein, hauer pippin and granny smith off my old list. I am curious what will stand out this year, as it surely won't be the same as last year. -

Flfishie - You can not go wrong with the Brogdon avocado, it is a good choice. Here is a ripe Brogdon going to be part of my lunch today On the mangoes it gets difficult to choose, lol. After I went to the tasting at Fairchild, I was confused like when you smell too many perfumes. I do prefer fruits that are small size and have no fiber, so that leaves me with fewer options if it was for me, also I found that is best to sample 1 variety at the time. So everyday I do only 1 mango from the varieties that I took home and here are my new favorites: 1. Alphonso 2. Fairchild 3. Champagne 4. Pairi I still have to sample the others... Silvia
