I have several varieties planted in the ground, Meyer, Moro, Naval, Calamondin, Owari Satsuma, Mineola and Ponderosa. Most have been in the ground 7 plus years. I have never covered them with anything other than some pine straw at the bases. Lowest temps one year were lower teens. 2 of the Moros were first year in the ground and the new growth at the top froze and died off. Both have since came back. Mine are all planted on the northeast side of the house...not the south but thats the way my yard is so there wasn't any other choice. I am thinking about a cold frame on a couple this year just to see if I can keep the fruit on longer for more ripeness. Rob

I checked out that site and it had a lot to say I tried to send the following email but it said they dont recieve from hotmail. So I decided to copy it just as I wrote it and post it here. My name is Ssmittee and I just ate my first piece of tamerind candy/fruit and found it so pleasing that I sucked on the seed like I did when I was a child with olive pits lol. I live in Polk County which is half way between Tampa Bay and Orlando. We are actually almost dead center of our state. I lived most of my life in Washington state and have been in love with the tropicals and am growing and eating everything they produce. [my papaya tree produced 47 3 to 4 lb fruits and I dried froze and ate and shared every one of them. I know the tree is huge so I guess a house plant is out, lol ..ok here is my questions: 1. Will it survive in my area? about once a year it drops to 25 2 or 3 days. This year it lasted about 2 weeks. 2. will they grow AND produce flowers and fruit in a large pot as in a 25 gallon planter. With the help of my 2-wheel dolly and my handicapped ramp, my living room sorta looked like a tropical forest. 3. Finally, Can you tell me how to prepare the seeds for propagation. I do appreciate anyone who is willing to take a few minutes to answer these questions for a stranger. Bellegallica, I'm not really good at describing perfume but I would have to say that, to my nose, GaA has a 'delicious' scent. The bloom(s) in the vase photo lasted well for 48 hours - but two of the three were already well open when I cut the spray - it was about to rain and they would have been completely ruined by the rain. However, they lasted well in the vase for 48 hours. I imagine if I had picked them when the buds were just opening they would have lasted another 24 hours. As for it not being good in the heat, I would have to disagree (at least in my conditions). We had a very hot (and unusually humid) summer this year and GaA kept on flowering all through summer. I can only imagine (and hope) that when she becomes established she will be even better. At the moment she does have some black spot but we've had quite a lot of rain and warm days lately so there really are very few roses in my garden that don't have black spot now. Tricia

Just as I suspected... I found this: " Chandler fruits are seedy when cross-pollinated by citrus fruits with viable pollen and seedless when grown in a solid block or in proximity to citrus fruits that are pollen sterile, such as navel oranges and Satsuma mandarin. " http://www.citrusvariety.ucr.edu/citrus/chandler.html It appears that Satsuma mandarin trees are very poor pollinizers, which explains why your grapefruit has not been developing any seeds. (You said there were 3-4 Satsuma mandarin trees on your street)
