Wow! Great pics of your bounty, Jay. Exactly how many plants do you have stuffed into that greenhouse? Are the seeds in the Dragon fruit hard, similar to guava, or giving on the teeth?

Thanks guys. The seeds in the dragon fruit are more like the seeds of a kiwi. You see them but don't even know they are present most of the time. Just lends to the experience. Truly is a beautiful fruit. A shame that all that beauty isn't packed with more flavor. Even the first red one I tried down at PineIsland didn't have much more than the white. You would think the flavor would just be spectacular. I think it is more refreshing and pleasing to the eye than anything else. I still enjoyed it!

Ahhh...NTM, waaaayyy to many probably! Trying to get rid of some. I was afraid for the wax jambu last year after the first fruiting. This year's fruit, while dropping from the tree earlier than I wish, have proved a keeper. The plant's never looked healthier. I'll try and push a lot of growth as soon as the last 3 fruit are picked.

Yes...the dragon fruit is planted directly into the ground while the jambu is in a container.

Nice looking fruits. I know have 3 flowers total for my dragon fruit. I believe I have 2 magenta and 1 white flesh flowers. The first flower is quite big now...but too bad I won't able to see it bloom since I'm in Orlando, Fl right now.

Is your dragon fruit more of a round shaped fruit? Was it big compared to other white flesh? I notice the red flesh is a bit smaller in size.

Also, which plants are you trying to get rid of? Hopefully, you don't get rid of too many...it's just sad to throw them away.

Ch3rri...hopefully you have someone at home who will be pollinating your DF for you!! I wish my red fleshed plants would have bloomed. All fruit so far are same shape as in the pic. I believe this to be the giant vietnemese variety. They are pretty big.

I've grown a bunch of stuff from seed or had other plants that are far down my priority list. I experiment with different plants and have way more than I should have. Those that produce and taste good move up to the top of the list. Those that have potential move up. Any of the rare ones...maprangs, longkong, any garcinia, automatically go to the top of the list. Those plants not in the above categories, get traded, given away, or sold.

I've gotten rid of all citrus except the persian lime and a Frankenstein orange tree...key and kaffir limes grafted onto it. This has turned out to be a huge mistake. It was fun attempting the grafts, but the key lime grows way faster than the original orange and certainly has a lot less desirable growing pattern...plus it has inch long thorns. The kaffir graft is not as bad. I grafted this one because I was killing the plant for some unknown reason. So I went from an orange tree that had a nice looking canopy and produced tasty oranges, to a plant that looks like it has an alien species growing out from several different branches! I will probably cut the key lime grafts out and hope the original orange recovers. Oh well. This plant will eventually go. I need to get some kaffir lime seeds and keep a small plant going for my wife to use in cooking. The persian will most likely have to stay or my wife would kill me.

I'm trying to sell the original key lime. It is just way too big to go back into the greenhouse. It was fun and I enjoyed the fruit, but...it is not in those above categories!! Got to go! Plants get bigger, my greenhouse does not!

beautiful color on the DF, alomost looks fake. The wax jambu is a keeper for sure, there are so good and refreshing (plus the wife likes).

Your DF looks like my Giant Viet. I ate one yesterday, it was sweeter than they were two years ago, so keep that in mind. If you taste an American Beauty, you won't be disappointed in its flavor, its sweet and tasty. Good going with it! I have a few more fruit which should be ripe in a couple weeks.

No named varieties other than the giant viet. Don't know what the red is either. I've heard some of the new named varieties are sweeter. Maybe mine will become more sweet later on. It's been fun and everyone seems to enjoy the appearance and/or taste.

I'm hoping the red will bloom but no sign of it yet. The cutting of the yellow pitaha I obtained in FL is starting to take off nicely. Maybe I'll get lucky and it won't wait 2 yrs to fruit!

yep, your both growing the variety Giant Vietnamese...since that is the variety I sent both you guys. =) Just don't want to see varieties get mixed up.

Giant Vietnamese blooms that fnish blooming a week ago.

Emperor Lychees. For whatever strange reasons. I get about 90% seedless fruits. I mean these things aren't even chicken tongue seeds. The seeds literally almost doesnt exist, usually on par with a large grape seed. Check them out, the oval fruits are probably about the size of a Mauritious and seedless, the larger rounder one usually have a large seed. Another thing to note about Emperor is that its not the sweetest variety when ripen but before its fully ripe, its probably one of the less sour fruits. I been eating them before they turn full red like how you see in the pictures, has a tangy sweet tastes.

how can I forget about the cherimoyas. Gonna be a great year this year!

eggo, absolutely love your lychee, cherimoyas and mango. glad to see that your lychee is thriving in California. I have a sweetheart lychee that should be old enough to fruit next year. do you have any other lychee variety? Did you do something special to get your tree to fruit (fertilization, hand pollination etc) ?

Oh Eggo-how I envy your Cherimoya! My mouth is watering just looking at those beauties. At $8.97 /lb, I don't get to taste them too often!

phase, I'm only growing the emperor variety for now. i do know of a brewster and mauritious that grows a few miles from me. I do nothing special with the emperor variety at all. It seems to bloom and consistent fruit for the last couple of years, but definitely fruits heavier every other year.

Fantastic pics, Eggo! I find it very curious that your Emperor consistently yields seedless fruit. You might be on the cusp of a genetic goldmine...imagine seedless lychees of all varieties! I'm not sure how that would happen since they are air-layered, but maybe you should contact someone studying them, and see what their take is on it?

Stanofh...the Nam Doc Mai has fruited several times but not since putting it in the greenhouse. My fault totally seeing that I did not allow the plant to rest during the winters. Hopefully I will be a little wiser this time around.
