more leaves.. means more food production.. means more vigor.. means faster establishment ... ergo ... do NOT prune for the first year or two.. if its shear size is not an issue .... if its bigger than the house... well then trim it back .... but if you can avoid it.. please do ... either prune it to try to invigorate it.. or move it.. but dont do both ... cutting off all its roots.. and all its leaf making ability might be counter productive ... MOSt flowering shrubs... which are a prerequisite to berries... prefer as much sun as possible ... the only other thing that might forestall flowering.. is too much nitro.. as in.. fertilizing the heck out of it.. as in trying to love it to death ... i would dig the new hole .... get some good rope... strangle it altogether to give access to the root area... dig away ... drag to new hole ... refill with native soil.. and water it PROPERLY ... letting it nearly dry in between waterings.. insert finger to find out how the soil moves water ... nice mulch ring will help ... you most likely will not need to water it much this winter .... while the weather is cold.. err towards not watering .... once you are sure it is well watered in... once the heat starts coming in late spring ... then up the waterings according to your inserted finger ... good luck ken

A newbie here. Don't have anything on your list yet. I do have a red flowering honeysuckle In my yard here in NM it came along when we moved here from se Texas Surprised it survives the winter here. Not sure how to root cuttings. Anyway will be moving to your area soon and will be able to trade from there. Have red yucca ,zebrina Malva, garlic chive seeds. Tansy, Russian sage Zebrina Malva, ice plant plants if you want. I am wanting the seeds of long leaf pine tree. Josephene

Hey Tara! In the past I've used many naturals in basket weaving and found that they command higher prices just as decorative objects even though they can be functional as well. As they should because it takes so much of it! I see using anything that grows out there to be a likely candidate for weaving as long as it holds well when it dries, has some girth to it, and is not poisonous!! But, sorry, I can't speak directly to having used callicarpa. And let me throw this out...last year I saw some woven chargers of naturals at a sale. They did intersperse some with reed for strength, some dyed, some not. The crafter even had some using pinks, others blue, for use by the special birthday person on their day! Cute idea, I thought, and obviously easier/quicker to weave than a basket! Give it a try and let us know how it holds up!

Update on my attempt at rooting branch end cuttings of the American Beautyberry: I have had success with rooting a cutting taken in late Sept. I stripped off the lower leaves, used liquid rooting compound and inserted the end of branch tip into damp ProMix. Cut half off of each remaining leaf, misted with water, covered with a 2 liter soda bottle with the top cut out, and kept in the shade. Our nights were in the 60's and days 80's and 90's during this time. It's been about 3 weeks and little roots about 3/4 inch long are showing on the cutting. Cutting above the soil line still looks healthy. Mary
