Which mango trees should I put in?
Comments (2)Plant O GRAM have nice trees. I purchased a mail order Mango and Lychee from Mickey. The Valencia Pride mango was about six feet and fruiting. (49 dollars plus 50 shipping.) The lychee about four feets with flowers, (49 dollars plus 50 shipping) Total 200 plus a free small south american cherry tree. I just order an alfonso, for 70, however because of the price of oil, the shiping have increase to 70. Mickey assured be that it will be a tall florishing tree. The web site is online. I live in So Cal also....See MoreWhich of these peach trees should I plant in my yard?

Comments (25)I think your best suggestion so far was the Strawberry Tree (Arbutus unedo); it is native to Western Europe (Spain, Portugal, France, etc.. It is a broadleaf evergreen and does flower and produce edible fruit. Even is grown in Ireland (known for its chilly summer climate)! I fell in love with species just reading about it so had to order one (from Portugal) if only to grow it as a containerized plant. I am sure there are other choices out there but you have to research it a bit. P.S., Atlas Cedar?! Another tree species I do really LOVE..., but every block in my neighborhood in NJ has one (weeping, non-weeping,...). I think there are more growing in NJ than in their native Atlas Mountains of Morocco! LOL. PS2., Logan, there are chill tolerant palms ALL OVER SF, no big deal, and no need to feature it where center stage where space is limited. (BTW, I have a Windmill in my own yard.)...See MoreWhich tree should I plant?
Comments (18)Look at Metrosideros 'Springfire'. 12-15' tall evergreen, coral flowers attract hummingbirds, would appreciate the cooler climate. I would stay away from Crepe Myrtles if you are in a cooler zone, though the heat reflected from the sidewalk and driveway might make it possible. See if there are any in your neighborhood and how they are doing. Toyon (CA Native) makes a small tree (slowly) and has white flowers in June and red berries in winter that attract birds. Some of the Arctostaphylos are small trees (eventually), slow growing but they have fabulous dark dark red bark, wonderful silhouettes, white flowers in spring that feed hummingbirds. 'Austin Griffiths', A. glauca, maybe? Check a native plant nursery site to see what taller Arctostaphylos would be best for your zone. Some of the native Ceanothus can make a good small tree. Not always long-lived, but they grow fast so can be easily replaced. 'Ray Hartman', 'Snow Flurry', maybe?...See Moresleep
