Mango fruit turning black on the tip?

I have a grafted Nam Doc that ive planted earlier this year that set some fruits.. well they all fell off except for one which has been growing pretty good until recently it has developed some sort of blackening on the bottom tip and looks like it might be spreading upward slowly?

can this be anthracnose? or possible just sunburn? the temps have been 105ish here lately and I dont have a shade cloth covering it. yesterday thinking it might be sunburn I took a brown paper bag and covered the mango and the stem holding it leaving the open part of the bag on the bottom so I can watch its progress.

should I just pull the mango since its still a young grafted tree. Was hoping to get to taste it, even if it was just 1 mango but I would rather it be healthy.

Not sure what causes it, but occasionally see what I call bottom rot on some mangoes. The fruit is inevitably destroyed by insects once the interior of the fruit is exposed. I know there are some fruits and vegetables that have rot on the flower end of the fruit as the result of a calcium deficiency. But with mangoes, I think there is a fungal component. I have seen this on Valencia Pride and also on Lancetilla, but not all the time.

Blossom end rot--due to calcium not getting from the soil to the tip of the fruit bud at a critical time. Often related to water management problems--too wet, too dry--or from cultivation or other root damage that restricts uptake from the soil, even if there's plenty of Ca in the soil. Tomatoes are probably the most famous for this physiological problem, but melons, peppers, cukes and other fruits can get it, too.

Looks like lack of water. Mango's prefer sightly moist soil and fertilizer twice a year. Don't expect fruit until the plant is ready to go to college (about 20 yrs.).

Manny, if you didn't water the soil and you've had over 100 degrees its possible you've stressed the roots? Can you find a place to put your tree where it gets a few hours of shade in the hottest part of the day...Mango trees love full sun...but 100 degrees for too long might cause the tree to over heat especially in a pot...if its very dry and hot...you might have to water the tree daily. If its in a free draining soil...you don't want to over water it either and over compensate since mango does not like "wet roots"...best bet is to give it some shelter like under some trees during the hottest part of the day...Morning sun is best when temps are over 100 degrees...Good luck!

new growth is commonly colored like that. they can take down to the 40s without dying. i wouldnt worry about the old growth dying, as you move it from one location to another the old growth will die off and the new growth will be more adapted to its new environment if you are not aware, the fruit, if it does fruit, will not be like the fruit you sampled, it most likely will be undesirable to eat. if you were looking forward to harvesting fruit i would recommend growing it for a season just to get some over-wintering experience under your belt then perhaps look for a good dwarf grafted tree in the spring like Pickering that can stay indefinitely in a 20 gallon container and give you fruit in a few years.
