Very nice tree you got there. I just purchased a sweetheart lychee tree From Top Trop. Not as nice as I expected but it's supposed to be blooming and fruiting size. All the new growth die due to stress from shipping. Plus their trees are pretty dirty...with mineral stain on leaves. I have to do a lot of cleaning to get it green.

I have heard mixed reviews about that company. I have had very good luck with Pine Island and Jene's. Pine island has the best prices, but Jene's is the only company that I know of that ships 7 gal plants. How long have you had that lychee? Those leaves look to be in rough shape. How long was the tree in transit? Your tree is much bigger than the 3 gal's I get from PI. If you can get it to pull through that going to be a nice tree. It has a better shape than a lot of the lychees I see. This is my sweetheart from from PI. It has started a nice growth flush since this pic was taken.

I just got this tree 2 weeks ago. I think it took 4 days to in shipment. The tree is okay, but because the use some kind of brown water to water their plants so it got the dirty look. I think the tree is overall healthy. The root seem to be very healthy and lots of roots. And of course this tree is a little bigger than PI because the price is double or triple. The only reason i got it from them is because they say it's 4ft tall and fruiting/blooming size. I think I will try out PI next time. PI have more lychee variety. I also got 2 sapodilla trees from Top. They arrived in great condition with flowers. That was mainly the reason I purchased more trees from them. I also got the priestly atemoya. The atemoya is 5 ft tall. Maybe their plants are more expensive due to the size. Some broken branches but after pruning it look fine now with some new leaves.

Hopefully my lychee will have new flush before winter.

I've got a few mango's , a Hak ip lychee, ruby supreme guava, grumichama cherry and I have a black gold jackfruit and a miracle fruit plant on the way.

jsvand- thats a great emperor you have. i have had excellent experience with jenes- i found their customer service is terrible but their trees are top notch. i bought my mauritius lychee tree from jenes last april and it is currently setting little lychee fruit in NY.

In my opinion, the mauritius is far better tasting than the brewster and hak ip lychee and if you have not already purchased a mauritius tree, i highly recommend. mauritius ripen in late may early june in florida. the lychees that are currently available in florida (probably brewster), are no where near as good as the mauritius in my opinion. so if u liked what you ate today, you will love the mauritius fruit. look out for it at the beginning of june next year. mauritius is also the most productive of all lychees grown in florida, and it has a decent rate of chicken tongue seeds. plus its the first to ripen.

I want something dry and crispy. Is the hak ip a dry variety? I wanted another tree but i have so many already....lol. I'm running out of places to put my trees. So got to think of the best variety to get.

I got a Cogshall Mango for my B-day from Jenes last year, it was in a 7 gallon. I was very happy with it. Planted it April 07 and has grown quite a bit.

Pine Island is a great nursery also, just if you want something bigger than a 3 gallon they don't have it.

Js, meant to tell you how nice your Empreror Lychee tree is. Great volume! Are you planting that in the ground or Container? That should take off pretty good for you, with a bigger root system.Very healthy and nice shape. You are just going to town, what's your next purchase, LOL...

It's going in a large pot. I have to be able to move it to get it in the greenhouse. They only plant I have in ground is the sweetheart. The only reason I could do that is because I am planning on putting the greenhouse over it every year. My next purchase thanks to Lycheeluva's recommendation may have to be a mauritius but i am not sure if they are too big to be grown in a container? Oh and I failed in resisting a lancetilla mango. But now I am DONE. I swear this time...

Pug, have you done any pruning to your cogshall? That has a really nice canopy. I guess if I have to buy a mauritius I might as well save on shipping and get a cogshall as well. But that is IT!

No, I have not done any pruning on this tree, that is why I LOVE this tree, for the way it seems to have a naturally nice growth habit. I have 2 Cogshall, one I bought at Lowe's in a 3 gallon pot, Lowe's gets their trees from Pine Island Nursery, it came with a PIN plant tag when I bought it. It was appx. 18" tall. Originally I had it in the backyard and later moved it in my front yard, very close to the house( 6 1/2 Ft away). Since it is a dwarf, I plan on keeping nice and pruned. The walls of my house should protect it from the occasional frost that we get here. Here is a before and after pics of the 3 gallon from Lowe's.

Wow. Everyone got such nice trees. I agree that PI doesn't ship 7 gallon trees. Their 3 gallon take 2 years to have fruit. I was thinking to order from Jene's but they only have few variety of the lychee.

ch3rri, that is actually not the case. This pic was taken the day this mango arrived. Lycheeluva is also getting blooms from his lychee's. All of the grafted or air layered tree's from pine island are basically just a branch from an adult tree. They are ready to fruit in there first season. It may not be the best idea to let some of them bare fruit but they can.

i live in yonkers,i want to grow lychee and alot of other tropical fruits.how are you new yorkers having success,tell me green house designs and stuff.

stat- last year i kept my plants in a room in the basement with a 800w grow light. this winter, the room wont be available, so i plan on putting my plants into my garage with the same 800w grow light. I will have a cpntracxtor install a gas line in the garage and use a gas heater to keep the garage warm.
