Removing tomatoes when planting... do I have to?!

I will be planting my very large tomato plants soon (they were sarted very early) and thye've got osme nice looking toms on them by now with virtually no fertilizer to date. I know I will be burying part of the stems, but there is still a good deal of plant. On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate the importance of removing these tomatoes at planting time (10 being very important)? I'm sure you can all understand how painful it is to remove beautiful looking fruit.
