Will Mallika mango grow true from seed?

I currently have a grafted Carrie mango, and an unknown grocery store seedling that I am planning to use as rootstock. I would like to find a Mallika seed (assuming it is polyembryonic and will grow true). If anyone has a tree and wouldn't mind selling me a seed please email me at vandegrift12@gmail.com

It's monoembryonic, and won't grow true. I know someone with a seedling, and it tastes great, but so does a Mallika, you should just try to get a grafted tree. The owner of the tree I mentioned is a lawyer, I probably couldn't talk him into sending a seed to someone since he's busy, he lives 2 hours away. tropicalfruitnursery.com ships Mallikas.

According to several web sites, Mallika is navite to India, which makes them "Monoembryonic", so my guess is it will NOT grow true from seed? Check out the link below, (Page 2 halfway down) an Article from "Brevard Rare Fruit Council". It has some great info. Hope that helps you out. Good luck with your trees!!

Hello a While back i planted a Mango Seed/pit just from a Store bought mango never really thought it would grow so today i decided i would dig up the seed now it had started to get roots but cause i dug it up the root got a little crack it is not to bad i did't pull it out it just crack when i lifted it do you think it will continue to sprout? or have i ruin it?

I would like to find a Mallika seed (assuming it is polyembryonic and will grow true). I would just buy a rooted plant, but the wife is starting to get pretty pissed when fedex comes with a new box every day. The only thing I really have to trade is a small rooted pomegranate (wonderful variety), or a piece of budwood from my carrie. I also would be more than willing to pay cash for it. Thanks.

"I disagree with the comment about mango from seed usually not tasting good" While you may disagree with the original comment "Most times not", I have to say that I have a mango tree in my yard that was grown from seed and it tastes like some type of petroleum based cleaning liquid. The funny thing is, the seed "MUST" have tasted good because the PO of the property wouldn't have planted the seed in the first place... that is unless they siphoned gas at night for a living and had no taste buds left? :-) Anyway... I'm going to pull it from the ground along with a HUGE (completely unproductive) avocado the PO planted TWO FEET from the Mango seed... sheesh. My only guess for that kind of act is that somehow they thought that the little trees in nurseries that had fruit meant that their trees would be dwarf specimens? TG for websites like this one. Gary

Sammy - that Mandarin tree is 10 years old? Shockingly small - no you've done the right thing by putting it in a bigger pot and seeming what happens - they love TONS of light, as you probably know.......
