what kind and quantity of fertilizer for a sapodilla in a pot.

Hello everybody!!I've got a sapodilla tree in a pot, it's height is about 2.5meters and it has flowers,but most of them fall before they become fruits.So i'd appreciate somebody of you,tell me what kind and quantity of fertilizer should I use on my sapodilla tree in a pot?

I have two Makok sapodillas I wanted to try keeping in a pot... neither liked it, and like yours they dropped flowers. I put them in the ground and they started blooming and keeping fruit the next season.

So for my efforts I lost a growth season, and a fruit season.

If you have to keep them in a pot I would give them a large one. Also while mine will not mind a dry spell they certainly don't mind watering when the soil drys out.

The bigger of my trees is smaller than 6' (2 meters) and is full of large fruit.

BTW... I L-O-V-E sapodilla / nispero !!!

PS I use a fertilizer formulated by a local nursery specifically for tropical fruit trees. Dunno the ingredients.

i remember someone telling me sapodilla does not grow in containers.

I know with most trees in that family,, the tap root is fairly long, and if it hits the bottom of the container, it will start to curl, and you can never plant it out at that point.

im no expert on the matter, just an FYI
my understanding is it also needs lots of sun to fruit.

Fertilizer spikes are generally considered an extremely inefficient delivery method for applying fertilizer. Ideally, fertilizer should be applied evenly throughout the root system (or across the top of the root spread) rather than concentrated in a specific area. The feeder roots of plants - the ones responsible for accessing and absorbing soil nutrients - are located just below the soil surface but across the extent of the full root spread. A liquid fertilizer, granuals spread evenly across this area or a good mulch of compost is the best way to maximize your fertilization and ensure plants are receiving the nutrients they require.

For in-ground, once or twice a year, I till in a good 2-3 inches of compost with a scattering of cottonseed(or feather), bone, and kelp meals, and just a tad of fast acting gypsum(for the clay and early Ca, while the bone breaks down). Every month or 2, I'll give a dose of fish ferts and/or compost tea. Midway through the season, I'll add a bit more each of the meals. They may not help for THIS crop, but it's a perpetual thing for when I start to pull the plants, retill, and plant my winter veggies. I do the same thing with my barrels. Refresh each year with more compost, maybe some more peat and perlite, and the meals. After about 4 years, it's pretty broken down(not so porous) and it goes into the garden.soil. Sometimes, I'll add a few TB of 15-30-15 right after the 1st big harvest. But, I have found it really isn't necessary -- I'm always drowning in peppers....lol For my #15 pots and smaller, I use 5-1-1. So, CRF's and fast-acting gypsum(Ca) when making, and about 6 months later, more CRF's. Weekly half doses of MG All-purpose and some epsom salts for the Mg. Kevin

100 Cup Coffee Pot -- Quantities needed!

Funny, I'm doing the hospitality part for a mtg tomorrow and here is what I've got and what it says. Pot#1 for 45 cups says 3 3/4 ground coffee for perking. It's a Mr. Coffee Pot #2 is for 42 cups and this Westbend info for it says 2 1/2 cups coffee. So we'll see how strong, mild or weak it is. The booklet doesn't give amounts based on strength,,just the amount of cups and the coffee to use. Good luck. ANOTHER THING....the Mr. Coffee says it will take 45 minutes to perk and the WestBend says an hour! using these many cups. So plan ahead for that little gem. Just an FYI,,I never thought about how long it would take since I'm used to the brewed kind rather than the perked kind. Hope it goes well.

Regular old Miracle-Gro All-Purpose has a 3-1-2 N-P-K ratio and contains the micronutrients typically not found in sufficient quantity in the soil. I occasionally cut foliage pro with all-purpose to reduce my fertilization costs. If you want to reduce the 'cost' of foliage pro you can occasionally intersperse watering with regular miracle-gro. Unfortunately, miracle-gro all-purpose omits calcium forcing you to supplement it in some other way and the 'tomato' fertilizers which usually contain calcium have "too much" P-K. If I understood correctly your fruit trees are in-ground? If so foliage-pro would be in large part wasted (ie: the lawn will eat it).

Thank u so much for your responses,I think i'll be forced to plant the sapodilla in the soil in order to eat fruits,and i've had already and i think these are the most delicious fruits ever!!!

Say that in some circles and the mango folks may tar and feather you... but I agree with you totally! :-)

Do you know the cultivar of the one you have? What zone are you in?

Also my oldest Sapodilla (6 foot tall) is in the shadow of a large avocado until the sun gets high in the sky in the summer and it does really good for a small tree. It has fruit on it most of the time now.

I was wondering if someone could please help me figure out why my sapodilla is doing this with its leaves. I have no idea what it could be. The older, lower leaves are droopy, and some of the leaves are showing a sort of rusting or brown spotting...any advice? Its slowly, but steadily developing on some old leaves and some new leaves. Anybody out there think they can help me save it?

My family grows this fruit in Miami and I love it so much I decided to give it a shot in Davis CA. It reminds me so much of home! With the right microclimate, I hear this coldy hardy subtropical is quite happy in humid and arid environments alike!
