Huge old avacado tree produce good fruit?

Hello,
We bought our house in July and are just now realizing that the giant tree in the backyard is full of baby avacados. I'm now starting to water and fertilize it, but does anyone have an opinion on how the fruit will be, given its age? The base of the trunk is nearly 3 feet in diameter, and the roots that are on the surface take up half of our backyard. There was no fruit to be seen last summer. Any and all info appreciated as up until the discovery of the avacados we were planning on cutting it down and replacing it with fruit trees, lol.
