Does Carrie Mango need cross pollination?
Comments (2)The answer is no! Mango trees don't need cross pollination. That being said, I've seen bees, flies and other insects pollinating my flowers. Mine are still very young, and the freeze we had in Jan killed all my blooms...almost killed my trees too. Except my container Glenn, I have a few tiny(pea) size fruits on that one. How old is your Carrie and do you grow it in a Container or in ground? Sometimes age has a lot to do with how many fruits they have. The older/mature it gets, the more fruits you should start getting. Here's a few info on Carrie Mango...according to this website Here is a link that might be useful: Carrie Mango...See MoreMango Nam Doc Mai vs Maha Chinook
Comments (17)Don't know if the Edward leaves are lighter green that other mangoes. Perhaps they need some nutrient....or.....its the desert sun doing its thing! I do feed them a variety of things throughout the year.... THis is the first time they've held fruit to the size of marbles. I've had fruits the size of BB's before, but they fell off I think because it was planted against a western wall and got way too warm to hold fruit, but I don't know that for sure. The tree is about 6 feet high, 5 feet wide. Maybe I'm getting way ahead of myself...See MoreCarrie or Dwarf Julie mango for pot?
Comments (24)Chaman, perhaps you should explain your quote: I have seen few heavy foggy days destroying Mango crops in India. This was before 30 years when I was there.I hope they have found some cure by now. To me that says you are disputing what I said, are you? I mentioned them in response to your statement. I know someone with over 80 mango varieties, and he told me about Julie's and humidity. I have 18 mango varieties, which doesn't make me an expert, and I don't have a Julie, which is why I'm quoting other sources. Here is a quote from Pine Island Nursery: 'Julie' on a scale of one to ten Jamaicans rate this a solid twelve. In Florida it is sought after for its dwarf growing habit. FloridaÂs humidity makes this tree a challenge to grow, however. Fungus problems which lead to twig die back are common, making fungicide applications necessary for success. The fruit itself is sweet and tangy having somewhat of a pineapple flavor. The fruit ripens late June to July. It also says dwarf which is contrary to the other opinion listed here. How it grows in Trinidad may be different than how it grows in Florida. Gary...See MoreThe Size of Mahachanok Tree vs. NamDocMai#4
Comments (18)For most americans, the nam doc mai is an acquired taste. The NDM is a very sweet mango, and to the american palate lacks the acidity. When very ripe it also develops a bit of a 'vegetable' flavor (hard to describe). It took me a couple of years before I fell in love with the NDM. The hispanics, islanders, etc don't have that problem - they go bezerk for the NDM the minute they try it :-). There's no one size fits all mango since here in South Florida, we do have such a diverse culture. Jeff...See Morecarbos
