He only lists one Brandywine. The same description under both "Red" tomatoes and beefsteaks. I thinking Brandywine maybe but not the Brandywine he thinks. Did you ask him? He may be calling it "red" by mistake.

In the past there have been long threads discussing the "Potato Leaf" Red Brandywine. IIRC, somewhere along the line there was a mixup, cross or mislabeling, or maybe it was a sport; and several seed companies got seeds that they sold as Red Brandywine, not realizing that the original Red was RL. So now there are both.

Go to Tomato Growers Supply Company and search for the name "Red Brandywine" and you will see both of them listed.

Red PL Brandywine is pretty good. I grew it alongside Mortgage Lifter and it was similar in size, productivity, and flavor quality. Ironically, I got a stray seed RL pink fruited plant out of my seed pack that turned out to be a great tomato. I have no way of knowing what it really is, but if I rename it I sure as heck won't put 'brandywine' in the name.

Thanks, I hope mine turn out well. The leaves are definitely PL. One plant doubled the size of its first true leaf within about 12 hours! Thanks to Miracle Gro for that.

Nope, I've had Montezuma's Revenge when travelling here and there but it's nothing at all like Marianna's Peace Revenge which is strictly a tomato garden situation. LOL

Yes. The fruit was slightly oblate and a little smaller than Brandywine Sudduth. It tasted very good. Complex flavors like BW Sudduth, but not quite as good. However, it was much more productive than that variety.

Which Red Brandywine, potato leaf, did you grow? From which seed company?

I still maintain the faux red brandywine PL that I got from Chuck Wyatt's site in 2002. It is a very good flavored tomato that produces huge flattened fruit up to 2 pounds. I need fresh seed this year so it will be in my garden again. I also grow the true Red Brandywine which is an excellent all around red tomato from 12 ounces up to about a pound.

I had a variant plant in 2008 from supposed Red Brandywine seed that produced huge fruit well over 2 pounds. I saved lots of seed and will grow it out this year to see if I can stabilize it into a large fruited variety. It is listed on my website as Beefywine for the time being.
