NEW: Butterflies & Hummingbirds Swap

OK here is how this one will work. I will pair everyone up with a partner. Partners trade addresses and send each other a box containing one plant and 5-15 seed packets. Plants and seeds should feed butterflies or hummingbirds. Things like Maypop and Milkweeds that host caterpillars (baby butterflies) are welcome too.

Seed packs need to contain at least 13 big seeds (pea sized or bigger), 20 medium sized (ie tomato seed size), or 40 tiny size (poppy, etc). If your seeds are rare or 2005 commercial, send less packs- if garden harvested, more than 1 yr. old, or common, send more. Common sense & honor system.

Two rooted cuttings are considered one plant for this swap.

One unrooted cutting is equal to one seed pack for this swap.

If you have only plants, substitute cuttings for seeds. If you have only seeds, say so and I will try to find you a partner that has the same situation. People who wind up with no partner for whatever reason will trade with me- though I must warn that I don't have many plants so you might just get seeds and cuttings.

Hope this answers a bunch of questions.

If still interested, please post what you can send (ie the full swap, one plant only no cuttings, or seeds only). That way I can start pairing people up. I would like to get the swap going sometime after wed the 11 but no later than May 15.

Thank you for the nice comments. I have so much stuff in there I'd have to sit and make a list. It is a bit over-planted because I had so much I wanted to plant in there, but I figured it'll fill in quicker. I like the stuffed to the brim look anyway. I don't have a place to sit and view, unless I want to go sit with the neighbors. I just have to take it in along my little path within the bed. I'll post pictures next year as it all matures. Karen

Hi Iris,
My package is on the way to my partner. I am sure I did't get it quite right, but sent extra seeds to cover for maybe not the right type and included the plant and an extra goodie related to butterflys. Hope she enjoys it!!

Hi all,

My health has been really poor for the last week and is still not so good today. So I apologize for not posting more often and earlier.

Thanks to my partners, Sue Guanzon and Robbie, for sending me such cool stuff!

Sue G. sent a purple (my fave color) beebalm, and a bunch of seeds for hummingbirds. Thank you, Sue! I've mailed your box via Priority Mail (with hubby's help since I was sick) and it should arrive soon. Please let me know or post here when you get it.

Robbie sent me an orange flowered Lantana (great for butterflies) and a red flowering quince (which hummingbirds like I think.) He also sent a wonderful assortment of seeds- 15 seeds packs, some of which were 2005 commercial seeds!
Wow Robbie I sure do appreciate your generosity. Will mail your box as soon as I feel well.

This has been fun! ANyone else care to comment about what they got?

Many thanks to hummingbird daisy who went way overboard sending some wonderful cuttings and several great seed packets. She also sent a precious garden stake with a hummingbird which will have a place of honor in the garden. What a great partner!!!!Thanks hummingbird daisy!
