Has anything like this happened to you.......

and if it has, what did you do about it? This weekend I went through the SPAM folder of my e-mail to see if maybe something I wanted or needed had been filed there instead of going to the inbox. I found an e-mail that said it was from MY e-mail address. I moved it over to the inbox and continued to check, then delete the SPAM folder. I went to the e-mail in question and opened it. It was an illicit ad for a website that sells knockoff ED drugs. Well, needless to say I was aggravated, after all it was from MY e-mail address. I highlighted the sender line and right clicked, then went to properties. Sure enough it was actually from some unknown e-mail address using my e-mail address as a sender name. Then I started thinking, this idiot could and probably is sending this to hundreds or even thousands of people using MY address, so now not only am I aggravated, I'm embarrassed. I forwarded it to the Attorney Generals office, with a note similar to this, but haven't heard anything from them. So, if you have had a similar experience, I would really appreciate any advise you could give. BTW, the wife or I have never gone to any kind of pharmaceutical website.

Yes we have gotten emails with our own email address. I don't know how they do it but I ask DH before deleting them cause we do send stuff to ourself sometimes.

I've gotten email from my own address too. The crafty boogers 'mine' emails forwarded around with all of peoples' email addresses left in the headers. (that's one way).

Everybody should delete all of the headers from forwarded emails to help with this single issue. I'm sure there are other ways they get our email addresses also. There are too many people who simply are ignorant of the dangers ON the internet.

Use "Blind CC" whenever you can also. They won't show up in the header that way.

Could have died from other causes and landed on the cactus, I suppose.... How close is this cactus to a window? Several birds slam into our windows every year, but most of them shake it off and fly away when they're no longer dazed (if the cats don't get to them, that is; one of our old cats waits for birds to hit the window, then she eat 'em). i looked at the ballard site and the redon 3-light and i'm wondering if it would be possible to alter these to a simpler form and add the seeded glass? i think i could probably find someone to fit the glass and dh could probably do a welding job ...unless there's something i don't know lighting construction (which would be everything). i'm still looking but what do we think of this idea? ballard designs redon 3-light pendant in original form: and kate's redone 3-light pendant, plus add seeded glass:

Kateskouros - give a look to Brass Light Gallery which I've linked below. It's best to download two of their catalogs called "Prairie Arts Collection" and "Classic Exteriors Collection", cause the individual pics on their website are not that extensive, but the catalogs picture everything. Brass Light Gallery has tons of finishes to choose from (not all shown on the website). And they have all kinds of glass (e.g. seeded, frosted, opaque, clear, and many more) which may help with the glare issue noted above by Shanghaimom. You can even choose the overlay (overlay being the metal pieces you've removed in your "simpler" version of your lantern pic above). You will see in Brass Light's Prairie Arts Collection catalog how you can opt for Prairie Overlay, Foursquare Overlay, MacIntosh Overlay or No Overlay. I myself liked the "Prairie Sunrise Fixtures" in the Exteriors Catalog, and in their Prairie Arts Catalog I like the Studio Lantern (more rectangular than you are looking for, but in their pic, it looks awesome if you have high ceilings), and the Chicago Lantern. Brass Light Gallery's quality is really excellent, so is their customer service. I have three of their sconces, and I never get tired of looking at their beauty. I can see that the end is coming for Facebook due to their unethical practices. That said, social media and online communities in general have been very helpful for me. As a very unpopular highschooler, I came online in the very early stages of the Internet. There I could find like-minded people who enjoyed my personality, of all ages. Those friendships, while virtual, were extremely important to me and helped ease some of the loneliness of my high school years. I met many of my current irl friends and husband on a local music messageboard. Through Facebook I have founded a very successful book club and found other moms, I belong to a low drama mom’s group that is great for support and problem solving. I would be a lot more isolated and have feeer friends without social media. I think some of the things that we blame on social media, for example, people not getting out and having real life friendships, can actually be at least partly blamed on a much larger structural forces in our society. How in the world could we expect two working parents, with the world’s most minimal vacation time, working 50 hours a week, in many cases uncompensated for the extra hours, to develop thriving time consuming friendships outside of work? It is only for the superhuman to do so. Life would be a lot more social if we had two hour lunches, worked near where we lived, had reasonable work weeks and had eight weeks of paid vacation. I’ll add two years’ parental leave and quality universal daycare to the list as well, haha. And maybe the ability to live near our families and extended families if we so choose.

We became a "hub" for spam somehow. My DH wiped the computer(Good Lord he was ticked!) and reinstalled better security. I understand someone can implant one of these "hub" thingies without your knowledge. PJ

Yup. Happens to everyone. The drug dealers (on-line) do that all the time.(Using other people's email addys.) Naturally, the drugs are highly likely to be fake, as well.

Although I wouldn't wish this on anyone, I am somewhat relieved that I'm not the only one this has happened to. I just worry what if they send to someone I know they would think it was from me. I guess there is no sure solution.

Change your email password. Never click the "unsubscribe" link unless you are sure of who the sender is. Set up one email account for junk like contests or things that require you to sign up and another "real" email account for valid transactions which (hopefully) will not spam you. McAffee has a good anti-virus software. Norton will make your computer run very slow.

Jim, I get these almost daily, I simply put them in my "JUNK" folder and block further emails from that particular address. But since they have so many addresses, it does not stop them. It is a bother, but not any real harm to me so far. BTW, I have MacAfee, also.

Carrie, I also use MacAfee. I suppose I should just let everyone in my address book know to put my e-mail address in the SPAM file, then if they get e-mail from me, check the Subject line to see if it's legitimate. This is very embarrassing and quite frustrating.
