Staking Indeterminates with PVC Electrical Conduits

I have been researching different ways of staking tomatoes and I came across a website suggesting pvc electric conduits. The conduits are sold at Lowes for $1.12 each and are 3/4 inch thick and 10ft long. Even burying them 2 ft deep there would still be 7ft of pipe for the tomatoes to grow on. You can also drill into the pipes easily and place long nails through the holes to add extra support.

Has anyone tried a method like this? Is it a waste of money to spend a buck each on this sort of support? I really don't want to build anything or deal with those lame bamboo stakes another year. Let me know what you think.
