Hostess for June FOTESS swap!

Hey Everybody, I was wondering if anyone would like to host our June Friends of the Earth swap? I am really going to be busy and quite honestly, I'm feeling a little swapped out! Jeanne is going to be traveling some, as I am, and I'm also getting lots of company from PA. (they all decided to come in June, AGGGGGH!!)

If no one volunteers, I think we will take a break for June and pick it up again in July. Hope this is okay with everyone. Maybe we all need a break!

I vote for taking a break. Our babies (plants) are calling to us. You're right...I've got vacation in June, starting to help with a community garden and lead some middle school students and the regular June stuff. I'd be okay with taking a break until July.

Heidi, the Allium is beautiful! And somewhere here on GW, I saw a pic of your new wall with the tulips blooming, it looks great!

It looks like we might be taking a break in June. We'll give it a while longer before I decide. Anyone else want to vote?

First of my four days off, getting lots of gardening done, the weather is just excellent!

Hi Everyone, I'm finally home! And can I just say that coming thro Toledo on Interstate 75 was the same miserable experience it has always been. Never changes. These people need to work on their detour skills. Had a great visit with the granddaughters. My daughter and her husband just bought their first house, so there was a lot of packing, sorting, running back and forth going on! It's a nice little house in a great neighborhood, same school district and Tabitha is so excited - she gets to ride the school bus! Where they live now is only a block away from her school, so she had to walk. And I got to meet my grandcat, Aurora. Very pretty cat, American Tabby mix, quite nice and it only took her a couple of days to get used to me. Okay, let's take care of some swap stuff! First of all, a huge Thank You to Jeanne for covering for me. And at the last minute too. This visit was supposed to happen next weekend. Jeanne, I owe ya one! Thank you! Robin, Beth and Heidi, thanks for sharing the pics, your flower beds are just beautiful! Great Haiku, Robin! Congrats to Katie and Emily for guessing #s 2 and 5! Erica, how great it would be to walk out to my back yard and pick lemons! Margo, we got rain 3 nites in Kettering. The girls drew a picture of me with their chalk, on the sidewalk, and were really bummed that the rain washed it away! Breanne, so glad your sister had you to retreat to! Emily - what general area of California? Northern CA, Bay Area, Southern, Central Valley or Sierra's (east)???? No worries about re-establishing your garden here, there are ALWAYS local plant trades, fantastic nurseries and - even though you can't accept plant items from others in this group - there are a lot of us Californians who'll just send you stuff :-) . This .GOV California site has info about what you have to do if you're moving and want to bring houseplants into CA with you (e.g always grown in sterile soil, what houseplants are prohibited no matter what, how to get things inspected FAQs and more).

Hi Tom! I see you have a page and a wish list started. Good job. Now if I sound bossy or start to sound like an IRS agent spitting out rules--that's not what I'm trying to do. Can you do a couple things? 1. Set up your messaging. When you click on our usernames (such as canyonwind (9) above, it will take you to her page. In the top right corner is a rectangle marked "Message". You can email her directly, ask her a question, propose a seed trade, give the other person your address to send you seeds--and it's not on the public thread with the weirdos and stalkers. As long as you're setting things up go to your username and add a number behind your name. Once again using canyonwind (9) as an example. That means she lives in USDA hardiness zone 9. I live in zone 4/5. That makes it easier for us to know if the seeds we have will do well in your area. The larger the number the warmer the climate. You can google your USDA hardiness zone. Now that you know your zone...you can work on your wishlist. If you are in zone 4/5 like myself you will know that anything tropical dies in the fall. If I want tropical seeds I know I'll have to grow it indoors or plant it as an annual. What kind of Want List? There's no right or wrong. Why make a Wish List? Because it gives the rest of us information. If you have 3 kinds of marigolds on your list we might offer you another variety. If you have annuals on your list we might offer you some of those. Also include what you DON'T want. Example: No prairie grasses or daylilies, please. Now...FOTESS is a group. It stands for Friends of the Earth Simple Swaps. We swap just about every month. If you are back here at this place find 2018 January Fotess thread. Usually next month's post will be put up the end of the earlier month. We love new people...but as with everything there's a process. You can post on the thread that you're interested in this month's swap or you can click on sandlapper or sjc's username and email them through Houzz. We just don't want someone who says they will swap, but doesn't follow through so we make sure there's a back up plan so nobody's left out. Just like second grade--everybody wins. I vote to take a break also. I am right in the middle of a plant sale with proceeds going to Plant-a-Row - 2nd Harvest and have 3 weeks to go. I have no time for anything.

Hi all, back from a wonderful trip to Dallas to visit our son and daughter in law. I have never been to Texas and although a nice enough trip, I don't think I could ever find myself living there. I like my own small town. The kids bought a new house and we were able to see it as they closed the day after we arrived. Big and roomy. I also was honored to have my dil ask me to help her do some baby shower registering. Can't believe our children survived their younger years looking at all the things new parents seem to require. LOL I was pretty overwhelmed and Kelly was too. So much to choose from.

A break is a good idea. Shirley, you must be exhausted after all you have done the past few months. Glad the break was suggested. With the weather staying cold for way too long, I am way behind in gardening. I plan to go buy some tomato, cucumbers, and squash plants as it is kind of late to start from seed. Thankfully, my schedule is getting back to normal at work. I am working the first three days of one week, then the last three days of the other resulting in a week off. I like that. :)

Hi Everyone, hope your Memorial Day weekend was good!

Margo, glad you enjoyed your trip, and glad you are back safe!

I too wonder how my three grew up so well and healthy, after all the kool aid, white sugar and orange juice (when they were older) I fed them. And all the baby powder I used on them! Things have really changed, but I'm sure my Mother and Mother in law thought the same about my kids!

As I said, I am kind of swapped out, but I'm not the only FOTESSer who needed a break! Ellie and MIchelle both had two swaps going on also, in the past few months. I'm not sure if they are done yet or not.

And it is VERY cold up here. Raining right now. I have a small photo excursion planned for the end of the week, sure hope it quits raining, at least!

My Columbines are starting to bloom! In addition to the gold, yellow and pink/white ones, this one bloomed for me this year! I think it's really pretty, quite different from the others!
