I seriously doubt it's a fertilizer issue, since the buds were forming. I'd imagine you'd see the effects of poor nutrition in the leaves too. Did you happen to have any frost during that time period (or excessive heat)? Otherwise, I'm assuming it's the spray you used. My trees currently have an infestation of spider mites, but they haven't really affected anything other than the leaves bronzing. Needless to say, the dried buds are gone, and won't be replaced this season. As long as the tree seems to be in good condition, it'll survive to make more next year. With regard to fertilizer in the future, a slow release variety might be best(osmocote). Also, you should refrain from spraying anything on the flowers/buds when they form. Hey Lycheeluva, I've seen on several threads that you highly recommend Mauritius. Brewster and Mauritius are very commonly available here in San Diego when it is lychee season so that is why I am trying to steer away from these two varieties. I have tasted Mauritius many times and find them somewhat tart and not as sweet as say a Hak Ip. Maybe they were picked too early or too late but I have experienced this almost every year they are in season. North tree man, I think we have similar tastes in Lychees in that we are after the quality varieties even at the risk of them not fruiting at all. Someone in an older thread mentioned that we can get Scion wood from all the rare lychee varieties from the USDA but this would involve grafting, which I am not good at. Hmm, I wonder if the USDA would sell some rooted air layers? I will definitely contact lycheesonline to see if they will air layer a Kwa Luk for me. I will also contact Pine Island to see if they have any Fei Tsze Sieu. Even though I know these lychees may never fruit here in San Diego, I have good reason to think they will fruit. It may just take a very long time but I think it will be worth it. In China, the trees that are in full production are huge, around 30-40 feet tall and wide and I feel that we can get some good production from our lychee trees here in the USA once are beloved trees size up. jsvand5, ohia pink is very high on my list because although I have never tasted it, Pine Island rates it 5/5 unless I have mistaken it for another variety. I think the price for of the No Mai Tsze here in San Diego is the only thing good we have going for us. Ong Nursery has many varieties but the old lady that work there, Mr. Ongs mom, keeps giveing me different prices and quoted me around 95 bucks for a 3 gallon Kaimana. The worst part is, every time I ask her for a price, she changes her mind. In Florida, you guys have the humidity that lychees love and lots of good nurseries also. Oh man, I still can't make up my mind.

Hi, I'm assuming its in a pot since you live in Zone 7. Light green is normal for "newly" develop leaves (I posted a picture below so you can see) if that's what you mean by pale green. Lychee trees are very sensitive to fertilizer burn so you need to use no more than 1/3 to 1/2 the recommended dose...I would fertilize it appx. every couple of weeks with a very "mild" fertilizer like Fish emulsion or Miracle Grow all purpose...again at a much lower rate than what's recommended, much better to fertilizer with less a little more often than give it the full dose all at once as it can damage the roots and the burn the tips of the newly formed leaves. Good luck with you Lychee tree and hope it continues to recover. You can see the light green leaves (these are the new growths) and will turn darker green when it matures.

Not sure but it looks like not enough water...planting a lychee tree this time of year you might need to water the tree at least once a day or even 2x a day...at least for me here in Central FL, we've been in the 90's almost every day mostly for the month of May. Lychee also hates wind...anything stronger than 15 miles an hour when very young or newly planted. New growths are very wind sensitive till the tree gets established about 2 years or so...if possible water often, Lychee trees love water and need protection from the wind.
