Question about Osmocote fertilizer
Comments (6)Practically speaking, release in damp soils is immediate. Actually, moisture diffusing into the prills through semi-permeable prill walls is the first step in the release process, but as long as the soil is at least damp, moisture levels have almost no effect on release rate, which is controlled almost entirely by temperature. Incorporation into media is much preferred to broadcasting, and you need to familiarize yourself with the individual product as generalizations are more and more difficult to make, and as the variety of products is growing very quickly. Comments (8)...and now you see the problem. Three gardeners. Three different opinions. That's the way it is with most questions about gardening! Personally, I look at it this way...it's Michigan. Summer is short. I want to get as many blooms as possible. Therefore, I feed. I'm OK with doing more than what's adequate. In fact, I'm shooting for "exceptional." P.S., before you use Milorganite, smell it and consider whether you can stand the smell. It's made from sewage. I put it on my garden one year and it chased my family indoors from the patio until I covered it with fresh mulch. Wheewwww! Even then, we could smell it after a rain. Or sometimes I'd dig up a plant and get a whiff of it. Gag! I admit I'm sensitive to smells. I'm betting MagicKiwi uses it FAR away from the house! Comments (2)Since no one has replied yet, I'll take an educated guess and say that it's fine. I used granular time-release fertilizer on all of my houseplants, including palms. The bamboo palm is a fairly easy to take care of, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. When it comes to palms, I like to make sure the fertilizer I use has magnesium in it, since some species are very hungry for it!...See MoreWhen and how much to fertilize
Comments (5)When I plant my seeds I water them with a solution of Miracle-Gro 15-30-15 mixed at the rate of 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water. I use the same type solution to water them every time they need watering until they are planted outside. So far (4-5 years), it has worked out very well for my plants and I can't remember having any problems because of using it. You do need to let the soil dry out somewhat between waterings, though, to help them to grow a healthy root system. Alan...See MoreOctogenarian
