Source for white sapote, sapodilla, wax jambu?

Hello,

PI does not have any of these for the near future and I'm looking to buy 3+ gallon trees. Jene's is out of the question because she still has not contacted me re: the order I placed 8 days ago. If any kind soul in FL wants to ship one, I'll paypal money first, name your price ;)

Have you tried calling Jene's? They never return emails, but they are helpful if you call them. They are a small nursery with only one person dealing with the online stuff.

I'll try calling them tomorrow, thanks for the advice. I hope I don't come off as riding a high horse, but...

I understand the challenges of running a small business with high demand - I've done it first hand. What bugs me is that if I had a service that I could not keep up with due to being short staffed, I'd either hire help to reduce the backlog of emails or terminate the service entirely. If Jene's cannot keep up with their online orders, they should either hire more staff, or if that is not possible, they should terminate online ordering. Look around, there's accounts of poor customer service everywhere on this forum and in other places.

I wonder if I can coax PI into sending me 7 gallon trees...

Wow Jacob, I dub you the Harry of SoCal! I can't believe how many tropical/subtropical fruit trees you have. I especially love your Mangosteen tree. Can you give me some pointers on what you feed it, how often and what kind of water you water with. Do you do any foliar feedings? I just recently got into citrus also and was looking for a blood orange myself and after doing lots of research, I settled on a Smith Red Valencia. I just purchased a citrus juicer and juiced bags of Moro and Taroccos blood oranges and depending on where I purchased the fruit from, it was very sweet and delicious or very tart. I really wish I had a backyard as large as yours. I can imagine how wonderful it would be once most your trees are in full production. You guys with large yards make me so envious. Hello Again Friends, Hey Gary, I don't think anyone has captured my addiction and sickness as well as you have. You are so right my friend, I would love to be living in the Tropics somewhere and I am trying in earnest to get my backyard to resemble it. Hmmm.......Retractable Backyard cover.....hmmm, it's not out of the realm of possibilities, lol. Thanks for the compliments and the invitation. I will definitely look you up if I am ever in the area as I believe we are Family. The hummingbirds are adorable by the way. Hey Joe - I would love to get come Guanabana Seeds. Did you see anything I have that you were interested in. I just planted some Pindaiba seeds and will hopefully get a bunch of them to Germinate if you are interested? Yes I have tasted it. It was pretty good. I didn't wait for it to get black though. The longer you leave it on the tree the darker it gets. I ate it when it was red. Here is a pic of the fruit I ate from Excalibur. Flowering at Excalibur: Fruiting in December at Excalibur: This is a tree in Trinidad with the different stages of ripeness. Notice there are some that are red and some that are dark purple. The darker fruits are supposed to be sweeter and juicier.

I do not understand myself why they graft everything here. I am from S.America originally and back home a lot of plants are made from cuttings or air layering rather than grafting. Things like barbados cherry, guava,sapodilla. I think the few plants that are grafted are mango, avocado.They dip the cuttings in Indole-butyric acid +alcohol mixture and then these are planted in huge boxes loaded with sawdust and covered with a lid that is made of a screen and plastic to maintain a high humidity. They have pretty good success. Ethan, are you planning on selling your wax jambu cuttings? What color is the fruit? I am looking for a reasonable priced cutting. Right now I am experimenting in my basement with a barbados cherry and a starfruit. I had those outside in the spring and summer and they are now inside for the winter. I also have 2 guava seedlings from a big white guava I bought at the oriental store. Keeps me busy for the winter. Can't wait till spring.

Hey Dan,

Try calling up 'Garden of Delights'. They have tons of stuff that they ship in 3 gallon. They are also in Florida. I have only bought 1 tree from them, a 'Kampong Mauve' Sugar Apple. It was about 3.5 feet when it arrived and was in great condition. Check them out.

I'd really appreciate help finding the following:

-Sapodilla (Alano)
-White Sapote (Redlands or Suebelle)
-Wax Jambu

This is proving to be harder than I thought...

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate any help I can get...I'm looking for 3, 5 or 7 gallon trees. I did find a 5 gallon white sapote on eBay, but it was $100, and I'm not too excited about that since PI sells 3 gallon trees for $30.

Why is everyone - literally every possible place - sold out of sapodillas and white sapotes? This is very frustrating! I'm willing to pay anyone who can ship one up here...please, resell nursery stock for profit! :(

There are a few places....offbeat, for us to check around here. If I get a chance I'll poke around and see if I can come up with anything.

I appreciate your help. I'm going to try to order a longan and jaboticaba from PI on Monday, as well as call Jene's to either get my order shipped out same day or cancel it altogether (it's been 15 days now).

Hey Dan,

You should also try Plantograms. They have been awesome and hugely attentive to my e-mails and requests, even sending me lots of pictures of plants that I requested. They ship 3 gallon and if you are looking for a Jaboticaba, they have some nice ones. Send me an e-mail and I will send you the picture of the Jaboticabas they have for sale - VERY NICE.
