Welcome to MNF's June swap!

This month....we will celebrate (and learn ways to eradicate!) BUGS!

Big bugs, small bugs, chewy bugs, crunchy bugs, flat bugs, round bugs, ugly bugs, cute bugs, long bugs, short bugs, itchy bugs, scratchy bugs, good bugs, bad bugs, bugs bunny.....no, not really...just making sure you're reading this...

A-Hem. For the rules. (yuck, I know...but we DO need some of those...)

1. Sign ups until MAY 25color>.

2. Send by JUNE 15color>.

3. Each participant MUST be 18 years old- or celebrating an anniversary of that birthday.

4. Each participant will send to their partner a minimum of 7 different plantscolor>. Seeds will be considered extras in this swap, and will not count towards fulfilling your requirement.

5. Each participant will send their partner some helpful item in beating our war against garden bugs. This can be a homemade slug trap (ick, slugs!!), a colony of lady bugs (yay, ladies!), citronella candles, mosquito traps...etc...

6. Each participant can send WHATEVER else they want to include in their box WHICH SHOULD BE A FLAT RATE PRIORITY BOXcolor>. This should "go" with the theme- so maybe some garden gloves with butterflies, a lady bug windchime, a dragon fly garden sign....the possibilities are endless. Use your imagination!

Throughout the month, we will be giving each other tips that we've found usefull in getting the good bugs INTO our garden, and getting the bad bugs OUT of our garden!

So let's have some fun and get rolling on this swap!!

Hi Shelly! Stella is pure maine coon, right down to those fuzzy tufts of hair behind her ears! LOL! Maine coons can be pretty talkative too. Bump, who sometimes I refer to as His Majesty, (and I can't believe he's about to celebrate his 2nd birthday in a few months!) is another maine coon. Stella is my 3rd of that breed, and I'm addicted to them. I wouldn't even consider getting another breed. Bump is quite the caregiver, babysitting anyone who is sick or feeling bad. This morning I caught him hissing at Stella because she was jumping around a bit, and totally not listening when he was telling her to settle down! When she calmed down and started taking it easy, he quieted down too. I guess he doesn't want her to harm herself so soon after her surgery.
At the moment they are both looking out the office window, enjoying the fresh air and listening to the birds. I'd take a picture and share it with you all, but Stella has given me strict orders to NOT take any pictures until her fur has had a chance to grow back out. Well, all I can say is, Her Highness has spoken.

Norma, I meant to post that your area sounds very nice, and culturally very diverse, and did I mention, warm!? Being only half an hour from Mexico must be so neat. I hear that the best pure vanilla can be purchased in Mexico too. A friend of mine brought me some about twenty years ago, and it was the best vanilla I ever used. Of course, being in Ohio, I haven't visited, but my husband used to go and buy horses when he lived in Texas. Of course, that was a long time ago, before we met. I did visit San Angelo TX with him about five years ago in April, and it was 93 degrees. It didn't feel that warm since there was virtually no humidity. I loved the people especially, very friendly. The lakes had pretty much dried up, but I guess that happens now and then according to the locals, and there was sand and cacti everywhere. Rose, how neat about the Underground Railroad stop in Waynesburg, I never knew. Here in Ohio, Cleveland and Sandusky are known for being ports for the UR, but here in the Youngstown area there is no mention of it. I am learning so much from all of you sharing your info about your home towns! Shirley, I imagine you doing cartwheels in your new flip flops, lol! You have great enthusiasm for your box, as do we all, but for some reason when I read your post, I couldn't help but laugh imagining you receiving your package. Great boxes are flying around. Everything sounds wonderful. It is raining here for the past few days, not a heavy rain, just a steady annoying kind, sometimes a drizzle and sometimes a little harder rain. If this continues, I will have to get out the old rainsuit and go do some weeding and move a couple of things around. My DH says I crazy, but I would rather be out there tending to things in the spring before things grow out of control. So tell me, do any of you have rainsuits that you wear to garden in the rain in too, or am I really "special", lol? Have a great day ladies. Sue N.

Good morning! Hope everyone is staying cool! We actually had some rain yesterday. The wind was blowing so hard it blew over my husbands crazy grill over. Propane tank and all! The worst part is it landed on top of some of my plants I had potted up :( They look kind of smooshed, but I planted them last night in the ground (crossing my fingers they make it). Shelly, Sue emailed me with my dc # for my box from another swap and was wondering if she did the same for you? Her hubby packed the box (with Sue supervising). I can't wait to see what's in there. As I told her in a email if that was left to my husband there would be a rotty, smelly, bare-root box headed someones way :0) Robin, when Liz emailed me that she sent your box out that was like 2 weeks ago! She also said in her email that she sent out a bunch of boxes and none of them have been received. And I haven't heard from her since. If you don't hear from her by Friday, we'll consider her not sending. And I'll get a box together for you...as I told Shelly, I have a lot of weirdness to go around :)...and its not fair that you have been waiting till the middle of July for a box you should have received in June (with no word of what is going on). I would rather send to you this coming week then wait till it gets hotter out...August is coming...and I can only imagine MORE HEAT! Hi everyone, I am in Columbus, Ohio dogsitting and housesitting for my son and new daughter in law. They are in Belize on their honeymoon. Fortunately, my box arrived on Wednesday before I left and I was able to pop all the plants in the ground before I left. My hubby is making sure they get watered although severe storms have been hitting there and here for the last two days. Carol included a list of the items she put in here fantastic box and I thought I threw it in my purse on the way outside the door. I now can't find it. I will wait to post everything til I can make sure I don't forget something. Thank you Carol for the great box and I am sorry I have not informed you it had arrived. The kids left here in such a hurry, I have been busy cleaning and of course, shopping. We don't have much access to many shopping places in Bowling Green where I live. Can't pass up a good sale. :) I will be stopping at a greenhouse on my way home tomorrow. I noticed coming here that plants are 1/2 off. I am sure the two teenagers in the car won't be happy but they know they have no choice. Will post the list of goodies when I get home.

OOh, this reminds me we still have to go to our lawyer to sign an amended will. We switched guardians for out two youngest from my bil to my oldest son. I should do that before I open the box. Would it be a good idea to have the dog sniff it out first? Should I worry about the mail carrier, after all she is a nice lady. Oh, what to do, what to do. Maybe have a fresh raw steak handy and ready to throw in another direction while I run with the plants.

Awwww...Maine Coons are so pretty, and big! They were a breed I had considered getting, but I now feel the same way about Siamese that you do about the Maine Coons! LOL! Glad to hear she is getting her rest! Give her a special treat from Sipsong, my polydactyl Siamese.

I can't wait for partners! I am sooo ready!

Dan, great news about Stella. They are our babies aren't they? I swear that one of mine can say "No" when he's mad or doesn't like something and "Mama" sometimes when he wants to be picked up or snuggled, am I crazy? ;-) My husband thinks it's just a coincidence.

While you're waiting, Dan....you could do something constructive. Like getting out that bat, and beating the bushes for lurkers & peeping toms! LOL

Sorry Amy, just responded to the second email. I've been having a bad few days. But the surgery is Tuesday... lol, Dan you can tease me now for having to wait til Tuesday.

Tomorrow I'm going to go and get the rest of the pre-op tests done and make sure my pre-admission is complete. Then hopefully be feeling well enough to enjoy a kid free weekend as Tiffy and the boys go to the lake house with Cliff's parents and be able to enjoy our first wedding anniversary on Sunday.

Ok, so I keep coming back here to read the posts and going back and forth about joining. My son is getting married June 13th and I wasn't sure if I would have the time. I am ready to take the plunge and join in. I just can't procratinate getting the plants in the mail so will give myself a deadline of getting the package in the mail by June 5th and no later.

Dan, you're on the right track with the "oldies" (except for the wanderer...that's WAY off base, and I'd have to ring his neck if it was accurate...)...but TOTALLY off on the friend song.

Yay!! :) I got one right! I really like that song, too. I think a year after 9-11, there was a special on tv for the children who lost parents and they played that song, and it was such a tear-jerker.

Morning all. Wasn't about yesterday, was finishing the pre-op tests, getting things together for the kids to go to the lake with MIL and we had to go shopping- ya know how it is, suddenly the kids have no socks that can be found, Vince needed a new pair of shoes because his feet had suddenly grown 3 sizes overnight, apparently.

On the songs, I was going to make the same guess that Dan just did on the parent's ringtone, so I'll have to give those some more thought...

Wondering just what I'm going to do with a kidfree weekend... wow, it's been a VERY long time since I've had one of those!

The ringtone for my parents is the theme from The Simpsons. Yeah, we were that dysfunctional when I was growing up. It's better now...but like I said...my baby brother impersonates Marilyn Manson.

here I sit at the computer, two cats fast asleep nearby. the window is open, and a light breeze is coming in. I can hear a squirrel talking from a few trees away, and occasionally some birdsong too. as the dawn breaks, it's revealing the white and purple lilacs outside the window. the white lilac is in full bloom, and the purple one is about half-way there. clouds cover the sky, threatening to rain today. everything smells so fresh and green outside, actually more invigorating than the fudge-flavored coffee I'm drinking.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, a Springtime Saturday morning, full of promise! what will the day bring??? I don't know yet, but this moment was worth being woken up at 4:45am by Stella. just thought I'd share it with you all...
