They look nothing like the Nepal I grew one year. Nepal is nearly identical to the true Red Brandywine aka the 'Landis' strain. This pic looks like something I've never grown.

Yes, I've grown what Lisa is calling Voyage, but it's usually known as Riesetomate. Riese in German means travel or journey hence why some call it Voyage or something similar.

it's not a cluster type variety. What it is is a fruit that has fused protuberances all over the surface, say small cherry tomato size. Kinda like a cauliflower with a bad attitude. LOL

Other than the novelty of it I can't say much good about taste, etc.

Just a wee note here, but don't believe everything you read at that site with respect to tomatoes. Long history re that.And no I won't discuss that publicaly.

I've had very good luck with her tomatoes growing true to description and very good germination. More than I can say for some other vendors but I won't disclose names on a public site. Jay

Veiled innuendoes as far as what I said Bill. I give anyone the opportunity to correct past wrongs as I'm sure you would as well. And her website re tomato varieties is not the only one that has received negative remarks here as you also know.

Anyone here can do a search and probably pull up the thread where Lisa was invited to come to GW to defend herself, and did come.

She impoved her previous renaming of varieties for several years after that and didn't change the names of varieties, but lately I'm told it's happening again as regards primarily variety information.

The issue has never been about seed germination and Tania has said that what's shown is not Nepal.

I don't want to prolong it either Bill, but when I do know that others have not been satisfied with Amishland, and I mean recently, I thought I'd say be alert or words to that effect.

Maybe I should have kept my fingers silent, as you're suggesting , but so should some others.

So folks who are interested can possibly fish out that previous thread via a search here . By now it could be cached at Google as well.

I am not suggesting anyone keep silent as I don't like censorship unless it's to prevent slander or unnecessary profanity. And you are not prone to either of those things ... leastways not ever to my knowledge.

The pictures Lisa shows of Riesentomate aus Siebenbürgen and of Voyage look very similar and she even gives a little story about how she got the seeds for each from 2 separate sources and how she thought they were identical or nearly identical. It really doesn't sound all that different from other folks' accounts of same or similar varieties/strains and growing out differently sourced seeds and seeing slight variations or even complete similarity with two different names ... whatever.

I can't comment much on Nepal. Never grown it. But, it seems that even without Lisa's wacky looking fruit captioned with that name that there already was some degree of variation regarding Nepal ... according to the storyline given at Tatiana's site, although the seeds in that case were sourced from Johnny's even if over a period of a decade or more. Yes, at least when you look at the pictures at Tatiana's site, Nepal looks like Nepal at Victory, too.

Maybe those lumpy Nepals got a bit too close to a microwave transmission tower or were grown in soil at a UFO landing site.

wow sorry everyone, had no idea there were some issues in the past over this person/website. I was more curious about the difference in size and yes, actually the shape as well in the Nepal photos. I mean, size might vary depending on conditions but shapes should be pretty consistent, shouldn't they? They are cute little tomatoes but I hope mine turn out to be bigger than that. I suppose I would take the side of trying seeds out yourself because, like I've posted before, I have had excellent results with Reimers and most of you can't stand them. To each his own I guess.

Bill, I wasn't saying that there's any difference between Voyage and Reisetomate, just pointing out that there is a different synonym for the same variety.

Nancy Arrowsmith introduced it to SSE many many years ago when she was living in Austria and was very active with Arche Noah.

And of course seeing the description I just had to try it myself for back in those days I grew a lot of similar "novel" varieties just b'c at that time they were something that captured my attention.

There is a simple recessive gene mutation that produces fruits like these. The original description of this gene dates back to 1945 from a researcher in Indiana (oh great, another hoosier!).

So it could be that Lisa receieved something that arouse "spontaneously" from some other variety.

Im having trouble here with an equation that doesnt make any sense. I think I need Reg's help.

Mule that has been my point. One vendor can sell a PL Red Brandywine and that is fine. Let Lisa do that and it is wrong. Another vendor had at least 10 varities that either produced wrong fruit or wrong leafs last year and it is ok. And there is another that renames many and you don't see them on a black list. I do agree she sure embellishes the stories some but in todays world that is salesmanship. I asked a prominent vendor to tell me their favorites and also what they would suggest for high temps. and they said all 300 of their varities were great. Lisa told me which one she would recommend and which ones she didn't feel were good producers. I don't want to get into a verbal war on the internet but believe the same standards should be applied to all. And there seems to be different standards for different vendors. Like I said I try each one myself before I make comments about them. And then from my experience. This has been my observation. Jay

Keith, I have never renamed a variety. I have named something that came to me unnamed, and have done that with the inclusion of the person I got the seeds from when possible, but nope I've never renamed an existing named variety. ( smile)

Out of curiousity what varieties do you think I've renamed for I sure can't think of any.

Mike Dunton at Victory and Chuck Wyatt at his site , and I can't remember the other places, all got PL Red Brandywine from Seeds by design in CA at one point in time. And when they found out about it they stopped selling it and got true RB.

If you're talking about the situation at TGS that's a different story. The two varieties Linda lists, a PL and an RL Red Brandywine were not part of that same distribution list.

And believe you me I've asked Linda many times to just come right out and say that neither are Red Brandywine. But she says that many folks bought them as they were named so she feels she should continue to offer thenm that way.

I don't think anyone has said that that's fine, and I sure don't, but she did go out and get true RB from the Landis Museum and listed that, except she called it the Landis strain, which I don't agree with either, but it's her website/catalog. ( smile)

As it is, Tom Hauch got RB out of the Yearbook and sent seeds to Steve Miller at the Landis Museum, so those Landis seeds are the same as all others who offer true RB.

It's never right/fine in my mind to be offering wrong varieties and right now a couple of places are still offering a Watermelon Beefsteak PL, which is wrong and those seeds came from Seeds by Design as well, and both places know they're offering the wrong WB, but again, it's up to them to make the change and I don't consider that situation fine, either.

I didn't mean the comments at you as I've had this discussion with others who condemn Lisa but say the others listing varieties with wrong names is ok. I just feel either you condemn everyone who knowingly lists a variety by a wrong name or none. I don't care if they list one wrong or several. And before I found this site and the others I frequent I grew the Watermelon PL and didn't know any better. I feel the only reason Linda don't change the name is money. I maybe wrong. And that is probably the main reason most change names or write glowing reviews. It is too sell seeds. I guess my problem with Linda is she leads one to think there is 3 strains of RB. But I still buy seeds from her and Lisa if they have something I want as growing true to desciption is more important to me personally than the name. As I've had a few that didn't grow true I guess I'm more forgiving on the name than the seed producing the wrong fruit or leaf type. These are just my opinions and I highly respect yours. Jay

Since we are on the subject of Amishlandseeds I direct you to her Flaschen tomato and I quote."This was a great seed trade from my German friend Oliver J. The name translates as bottle or flask , and I have no idea why it has such a name for a cute round cherry type tomato."
The point being the real flaschen tomato does look like a bottle/flask, the only thing she got right in her discription. The link below is a picture of the real flashen tomato from Reinhard Kraft's site in Germany.

Reisetomate is a great tomato! I sell tons of them at the farmers market because kids like to pull and peel them. I tell the kids they are pull and peel tomatoes.Gotta get them to eat those veggies when you can...

okay, I am new her everyone so be patient with me, I placed a small order with Amishlandseeds before joining up here and getting some recommended companies , it was a small amount, for two seed types that my kids fell in love with the photos /description of, (Matt's wild cherry & white current) I would like to have some suggestions on something simple to grow (Florida) in a kid's garden that she has (to replace the white current she is out of) that you guys think she has accuratley described , I had a back up choice of perhaps little white rabbit seed or something my daughter loved the look of listed on the site as Togo Trifle from Africa???? I don't want to plant something that we cannot eat or that makes one of my kids sick!
Any suggestions are welcomed! She suggested to me Eva's purple ball?
