I am wanting to do a trade. I would LOVE to try your: SOLAR FLARE variety and only need about 5 seeds. I have these varieties that I did not notice on your list: Burgess Lemon (only 5 seeds from Wintersown and several years old) Hovarth (only 2 seeds left from Wintersown and several year old) Peacevine Cherry (10 seeds from Kenyon Organics, probably 2 years old) God Love (5 seeds from Kenyon Organics, probably 2 years old) Abe Lincoln (about 10 from Livingston Seed Co, less than year old) San Marzano (about 10 from Organic Ferry-Morse, less that year old) I am rather new to this forum and unsure how to proceed. Last year here in Berkeley near University and San Pablo - a couple miles from the bay - my Sungolds and Candy Isis and Cherokee Purples were prolific. Black Krim, Early Girl and Better Boy did fine. No diseases, one hornworm *creepy*. This year I'm only doing heirlooms *except* I can't imagine life without Sungolds and Candy Isis so will do those again! I plan to grow from starts and this is my list IF I can find all these varieties as starts.... Aunt Gertie Gold Aunt Ruby's German Green Berkeley Tie-Dye (have to - I live in Berkeley!) Black Krim Brandywine (black, pink..whatever I can get) Cherokee Purple Dr. Wyche's Yellow German Giant Green Zebra Marianna's Peace Mexico Neves Azorean Red Old German Paul Robeson Persimmon Royal Hillbilly (my name is Royal - have to!) Sunset's Red Horizon White Wonder Cherries: Candy Isis Riesentraube Sungold Snow White Sugar Lump I will expand my garden this year and the new spot gets much more sun! Of those that you asked about orginally: Sweet Horizon (Rosalie's) is my favorite orange and one of my top five of all tomatoes. It starts producing early and continues until late in the season. The flavor is complex and bold. Love it! Caspian Pink is a good pink. Sweet and flavorful. Crnkovic Yugoslavian (a pink, BTW) has excellent flavor and is high yielding. NAR and Carbon have fabulous flavor but both were really low production for me. Black Krim has never done me wrong--good flavor and reliable.

This was my first year growing tomatoes after a few years of not having a garden. I used some seed that were at least 5 years old leftover from my last garden and wasn't sure if they'd make it. They did, but I got irregular numbers of plants from them, making yields a little hard to determine (since I'm too lazy to weigh anything). Therefore, my totally unscientific impressions... Best: Mortgage Lifter, Red Brandywine, Black Cherrry - all good producers and tasted good. Tolerated heat well too. Saved seed and WILL grow again. Meh: Pink Ponderosa and Hawkins Plum - Only had 2 and 4 plants of these, respectively, but they still seemed to have poor yields, and Hawkins had terrible BER. Flavor of both were fine. Saved seed, but only MIGHT grow again. Bad: Yellow Pear - Huge production, but flavor left much to be desired. Much like a store bought tomato. Didn't save seed; won't grow again. As you can see, I think flavor and yield are both important. Don't see a lot of use in growing a delicious tomato if you don't get any fruit, but high yields aren't that great when the tomatoes taste lousy. I don't think asking for both good flavor and good yields is too much to ask. :-)
