Curious about extreme drought & heat

Dear Tennessee Gardeners: I am a "weather-nut" and a gardner who is interested in how extreme weather conditions affect plants/shrubs/trees. It seems to me that "ground zero" for the extreme heat and drought in the south this month has been Tennessee--especially the Nashville area which has received little if any rain along with weeks of 100 degree temperatures--and I assume--unlimited blazing sunshine. I am curious how these conditions have affected your gardens or the landscape in general. Perhaps some plants have faired better with those conditions while others are suffering? Have you noticed any plants/trees that are failing regionally?
