Free flats and pots

There was a thread several weeks ago about someone needing flower pots. I had replied saying that you could get them from landscaping companies after they plant the flowers. I checked with a small local nursery and they have a small greenhouse full of flats and pots with dead plants and potting soil still in them. The owner told me that a frost we had earlier this spring killed all of the plants and he had not had the time to haul it to the dump, so I ended up with another load of pots and flats. My wife thinks Im crazy but I tell her Im getting ready for the fall swap. If there is anyone in the Pleasant View, Tennessee area thats needs some e-mail me because he still has some left.

I did post on the exchange page about running out of pots.
Later, I received a "friendly message" from the administrators about posting on topic. I was told that if this happens again, it could lead to me being banned. I was so mortified, I am afraid to put anything, now....
I mean, I posted on the exchange page, about running out of materials for the swap...I sure hope I didn't offend anyone...

This doesn't make sense to me. What were you posting that you shouldn't have been according to them? Surely there must have been something else involved, a drunk administrator, or something.

Oh my goodness, Wendy! I can't even imagine. Sounds like it must have been a very brutal accident. Only you know how much pain you are in and if you need pain meds then you should be very firm about conveying that to your doctor. (yikes that sounded like a lecture..sorry! :)) I have seen pics of the Zanzibar and it is impressive! I have tried to grow castor beans and do not have much success. Last year was my best and I got a green no name one (seeds given to me as just 'green leafed') to get to about two feet tall and it got one flower. I got seeds from it--one seed pod so I think it was three seeds. I did get some seeds for one marked 'red leaf' in a swap last fall, so I am looking forward to growing them. I had planned originally to grow castor beans in the hope that their large leaves would shade the west facing windows in my sunroom. It gets extremely hot in there in the summer. This year I am going to grow tall sunflowers and see if they do better. I got seeds for 'giant grey stripe'. I need it to grow at least ten feet so I hope it does. I keep seeing different info for them. some sites say 8' and other sites say 10-12' I am going to give them the best conditions I can. If I do have success with the castor beans also, then I will plant them both. best wishes for continued healing and a good gardening year with your volunteers. :) Lois p.s.--I know you have heard this from others, but I wanted to say that even though I was excited when I originally read about WS on the wintersown.org site, when I came here, your posts, enthusiasm and pics really inspired me! :)

Nothing will happen to the vine bad, if that is what you mean. You can leave it alone til fall, then if you want you can cut the roots. It won't hurt the vine. As long as you keep it in check, you can leave the roots where they are, or let them grow back again next spring so the vine can grow a little more. That is just root pruning, which is commonly done. My girlfriend routinely allows her blue dune grass to root through the pot so it becomes nice and thick in the summer, and then she cuts off the roots in the fall for the winter. Her lawn guy moved it already this spring and she was upset. SHe wants it to root through so it becomes big and thick. DO it every year like she does, it won't hurt the plant. (blue dune grass is extremely invasive so she pots it)

That's pretty horrible, SissyZ. Could it have something to do with the word "pot"? LOL. Maybe that word is flagged.

This forum is for those in Tennessee to discuss the various aspects of gardening there.

Well Sissy, Spike is gone now I think. Maybe we don't have to detour to Disneyland anymore. ;-) I've had a couple of trips there in the last few years.

I have seen a couple mentions about the Disney thing, what is it? I have guessed it's some sort of punishment?

Sissy, when you get in trouble and you try to log into GW, you are redirected to Disney.com. Hence being sent to Disney. I would prefer tickets myself. :)

Pleasant View is about 30 miles west of Nashville on I-24. Check some nurseries in your area, Im sure most have plenty they would be willing to get rid of.

well I got one of those messages to because I wanted to do a round robin with garden trinkets. All exchanges are for plants and seeds only and everything else has to be put into the garden junk or whatever it's called (no one ever visits it) exchange forum. That's why you got the notice. I also got my hand slapped for bumping a message.

All I have to say is if I get banned they'd better refund my money.
