leaving roots of plant in SFG over winter?

I had my first SFGs this year and it went really well. I pulled out the vines/roots of squash, cucumbers, and the roots of the tomatoes. However, the brussel sprout stalks were three inch diameter and when I did the final harvest I cut the stalks at their bases and left the roots in the bed. Also left some cauliflower and eggplant roots in place. Should I go back and dig these roots out, or is there benefit to leaving them in the bed over the winter and cleaning them out in spring?

Thanks! Rachel
