When you consider the costs of maintaining a website, printing catalogs, processing orders, facility costs, phone lines, payroll, etc., I think that's a bargain.

I second the suggestion for Sandhill Preservation in terms of low cost shipping as well as trueness of seeds.

For several years I used to do a wrong varieties thread here at GW and Sandhill and TGS were always near the top in terms of seed purity. And it's something I'll never do again.

But it's good to remember that no place selling OP tomato seed is perfect, just b'c of the way that they have to be grown, and also the fact that some places produce their own seed, others sub contract out, others buy wholesale and some do a combination of those methods.

Pine Tree Seeds has $3.95 shipping up to $19.99. I do small orders from them for that reason. most are minimum of $6.95.

For further clarification, Tatiana charges $2.00 for each seed pack, and if you order 8 or more packs, the shipping is free. I can't find a better per pack price and shipping deal than this.

This year, I've ordered from Tatiana and Gleckler Seedman. Both EXCELLENT!! And most reasonable shipping.

I paid for a bubble envie through Tatiana but I'm now convinced it's not necessary. When properly packaged, the tomato (and pepper) seeds will not get crushed in a "normal" envie.

Both Tatiana and Gleckler's ship perfectly and have excellent customer service; also both consistently ship the day after an order.

Am waiting for Sandhill to update their online catalog, as I missed the printed catalog mailing.

How is that possible? Envelopes must be fatter than a 1/4" so they don't go through automated sorting--with it's high-speed, crushing wheels of seed death.

Over the years IÂve ordered from Tomato Growers Supply (TGS), Sand Hill Preservation, TatianaÂs Tomatobase, JohnnyÂs Selected Seeds, ReneeÂs Garden Seeds, Veseys, and now Gleckler Seedman and have had good luck with all for shipping/delivery. So far all seed bought from these vendors have grown true, which is important to me, so I can recommend the 1st six listed. This is my 1st year ordering from Gleckler but they charged only $2 for shipping/handling, shipped the next day, and from what I read on these forums had good seed sources so IÂm confident they have sent me a good product.

Fedco Seeds charges $5 for shipping, but shipping is free if you order over $30. I have been very pleased with their seeds.

Thanks for all the replies so far. A couple of questions.
1. I didn't see an order blank for Sandhill. Do you just write what you want on a plain piece of paper and mail it to them along with a check? They say no online orders or credit cards.
2. Tatiana is in Canada and their website says buyer is responsible for all import paperwork and permits. Has anyone ever had to file any paperwork or had their seeds confiscated by customs for not having the paperwork?
3. For some of the other companies mentioned it wasn't clear to me if the posters had actually ordered from the companies and received their seeds already with no problems, or had they just ordered but not yet received their seeds.

I've ordered from Tatiana's and never had to complete any paperwork except the envelope with my order. Had great success with her seeds!!

Sandhill has different prices for different tomato varieties depending on how seedy the variety is, but most packs are around $2 and there's NO charge for shipping at all if the order is over $10. That's for US shipping; Canada and other foreign are more.

And the USPS has faked me out with their new rates. It used to be X for Canada and Y for almost all of Europe and the uK, and now they have a sliding scale and on theire website say that postage cost starts at a low of 75 cent and goes higher.

I can't get to the PO in winter to get stuff weighed and metered so I just sent out lots of seeds overseas and ended up putting an obscene amount of stamps on the envelopes since I don't know the variable amounts to different countries re postage .

Hi Carolyn, I use the USPS postage calculator almost daily--I usually mail from home unless it's a package weighing more than thirteen ounces--those must be taken to the PO. I do have a scale that measures in ounces or grams, so that helps a lot to determine the weight. I'll paste in a link to their site for determining postage to anywhere in the world.

Californian, at the top of the tomato page there is "download and print catalog order form". You click on that to find the form. Also it is not really clear all that they sell unless you hunt around on their site. They have some other interesting vegetables.

I didn't complete any import paperwork either when I ordered from Tatiana.
I'm also remiss for not mentioning in my previous post that I was a grateful recipient of Tomato seeds from the generous Trudi_d at wintersown.org. I received some great varieties from her and got to experiment with a different growing technique to boot.

Trudi, I already have the USPS site in my faves and when you look you'll see that the cost of postage for countries other than Canada are stated to be variable, the lowest being 75 cents, but I didn't see any specific countries mentioned, but then I didn't look around that much.

So it's not just so much what the seed envelopes weigh, it's where they're going to that is now determined by country that determines how many stamps I have to use and if I could find that list I'd be OK. Driving to my local Post Office is not an option, but I suppose I could call down there and ask.

But all the envelopes from my free seed offer have now been sent out, and the SSE YEarbooks were sent out yesterday, so if I get any overseas requests via the YEarbook, I'll just call down there and ask.

Why didn't I think of that before? LOL

Carolyn, who also has the option of giving large padded mailers to my post lady and she can mail them for me. I've done that before just a few times but hate to bother her.

Carolyn, go to that link again and where it says 'Select a Destination' there is a drop down menu that you can use to choose a country. Seriously, I use this almost everyday for internation postage--this saves me a trip to the PO. I do keep on hand several amounts of the various stamps, .44s of course, plus .04s, .02s and one centers.

Californian...I ordered seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. The shipping is only $3 per order, and they have some of the varieties that you want. Service was quick, too!

Thanks again for the replies so far. I checked them all and none of them have all three varieties I wanted, some have two out of the three though. And all have some drawback. Tatania and Sandhill won't let one order using a credit card. To get free shipping on most of them that have free shipping you have to order five to eight packs of seeds. Some have really cheap prices per pack but only have maybe one of the varieties I am looking for. Some won't tell you how much shipping will be until you enter an order. Many of them only carry heirlooms so you can't get hybrids like Sun Gold. Is there any perfect seed company that has low seed prices, low shipping and handling, huge selection of varieties all in stock, both heirloom and hybrids, that accepts internet orders using a credit card and ship within a day with no minimum orders.

At Tatiana's TOMATObase, we accept credit card payments - you have to choose PayPal option and then choose credit card option from there. As long as PayPal recognizes your credit card, it should work. We process all e-payments through PayPal.

Re seeds confiscated at the border - I only had 1 such case in the last 5 years. In those case I would resend the package.

I do not offer hybrids, except one variety - SunSugar F1 which I love and believe it is better than Sungold as far as cracking goes. This is the only seed that I do not produce at my farm and I buy a small bulk, repackage and sell. And this is the only seed pack that would contain smaller amount of seeds - only 20.

Hope this helps to answer some of your questions.

Tania, about the above paragraph. Yes, I understand you say you will accept e-payments as long as Pay Pal recognizes a credit card number, but then you say that Sandhill is great but it's a pain in the neck to order seeds from Canada b'c they do not accpet e-payments.

Well you're in Canada and you do and Glenn is in Decorah IA and doesn't accept PayPal or any credit cards.

I like his comment that says when it becomes possible to e-mail chicks he'll consider accepting orders via e-mail. LOL

But he's not going to convert his website to a shopping basket type site and he's not going to accept orders via phone or by e-mail and he discusses that at his website and for him, with his full time teaching job and over 200 breeds of fowl to maintain I can really understand why he and Linda will only accept orders on the order forms as sent by USPS.

No, there is no such perfect company that will offer every OP or hybrid that you might want, that takes phone orders or credit cards and ships within a day or two, that has low seed prices and low shipping costs and has great customer service I'll add.

I think it's a matter of you deciding what's most important to you. Is it variety selection? Is it what you call low cost shipping, low seed prices, etc.

I don't know of anyone who buys tomato seed from just one company so if I were you I think I'd reveiw some of the companies that have been suggested to you and after checking them out chose however many places might meet your needs, on a priority basis re all the criteria you mentioned.

I meant to say that for Canadians it is difficult to order seeds from Sandhill, as we do not necessarily have US checks, and Sandhill does not accept electronic payments.

Maybe Sandhill could request that the checks be made out to USD ~ US Dollars. But if his bank charges a foreign source transaction fee then that can be tacked on to the bill.

Such as if the invoice totals 15.00 USD and the bank charges a $2.00 foreign transaction fee then for all international orders add two dollars, thus for that invoice it would be a total of $17.00 USD

Unless Sandhill has something unique you Canadian buyers need, I really think Tatiana's TomatoBASE is an outstanding store to purchase from in Canada. Even from the U.S. she is extremely easy to deal with.

I found such seeds, but their delivery is too expensive and relatively long! Now found a good delivery that will suits me. I remember when I ordered an item, and I was really excited about it. The agency that was shipping it to me that it will arrive in 5 weeks maximum. I talked about this issue with my friend, and he told me that he knows a website that can solve my issue https://sourcingbro.com/shipbob-review/. I gave it a shot and surprisingly I got my delivery on time. Now I only use their services for shipping, and it really made the whole ordering stuff easier.

Baker Creek (rareseeds.com) often has free shipping. Timeless-tomatoes.com will give you free shipping if you get $10+ worth. They both give free seeds with each order, usually, too.

I don't recall the shipping prices offhand, but other places that have been pretty affordable have been Victory Seeds, Trade Winds Fruit, Pine Tree Garden Seeds (superseeds.com), SeedsNow, Sand Hill Preservation Center, TomatoFest, etc. Some of those might have $5+ shipping, but have lower seed prices to compensate.

If you want Burpee seeds without the shipping cost, you can go to Walmart or The Home Depot, where they may carry them.

If you want free seeds, check out Tormato's MMMM swap. I think it's in the Round Robin forum in the fall.
