Finalizing List, Help Please, Which White? Which Green?

I'm trying to choose 19-20 tomato varieties from a list of 51. I've got it mostly chosen, but having neither grown nor heard much about the greens and the whites I'm totally lost on these.

I have Great White and White Tomosol. Great White is a little bigger, White Tomosol is a little earlier. Anyone know if one is better in heat than the other?

I have Absinthe, Green Giant, and Aunt Ruby's German Green. Absinthe seems to win on earliness (perhaps better for my second season?). Anyone know if one of those is a better choice for heat?

Skip the whites all together. They are nothing but a waste of space.

Try Cherokee Green as a good green that is currently easy to get.

I've never grown Absinthe or Green Giant, but my Aunt Ruby's Germany Green handled a month and a half of steady daily temps above 95 just fine. They were great this last year.

Herbaceous=Dies back to the ground, previous season's growth has no green. Plant goes dormant and comes back from the roots. Evergreen= Stems retain all/most of their leaves. Semi-Evergreen =Stems retain some leaves-usually at the tip. New growth usually starts at the tip. Often these plants will benefit from being pruned to encourage new growth to sprout from the base of the plant and along bare branches. Thyme-evergreen/semi-evergreen Oregano-can be semi-evergreen. Depending on variety, climate, and species may or may not be cold hardy. Most act semi-herbaceous and look dead but with some leaves at the end of the stems but come back from the crown or roots. Tarragon-herbaceous-It begins to go dormant as the days get shorter. If you look around the base of the plant and see small shoots with leaves just peaking out of the ground then it is alive and should begin rapid growth once the days get longer and a little warmer. Most Tarragon dies before it goes into winter or is too weak to survive winter because of disease caused by excessive humidity in the summer or too much water. This is a plant that can survive in regions that receive only 1 foot of rain per year! It is otherwise very cold hardy. Lavender-evergreen/semi-evergreen Peppermint-herbaceous. Also somewhat day length sensitive. Marjoram is a tender perennial. That means it will die when temps drop much below freezing for long periods. It can take a frost and even short periods of light freezes. It is otherwise an evergreen like its Brother Oregano

Which to grow from local farm's list?

Mortgage Lifter may be the most productive, large heirloom on that list. I grow the Estler's strain and it's very good to excellent in taste & production. Brandywine is the defacto heirloom for taste but doesn't always produce well but your area it should do good. Jetstar is a very good hybrid. For a cherry, I think nothing beats Sungold. Paul Robeson is about 6oz and did well here. What I WOULDN'T grow: Patio, Celebrity, Mr. Stripey, Super Fantastic, Better Boy. Hope this helps. Mark

Please help! Which of these sealers is best for Danby marble?

I like the STT SB sealer (Deluxe). We used it on travertine and White Thassos (and our grout). It was very easy to apply and had extremely minimal odor. I know rococogurl liked the Akemi Nano for her marble. If you call STT and speak with Stephen (company owner and developer of the products), he is a fountain of info and very helpful. There are new application instructions (since we'd last used this sealer) that were not on the can when I ordered more of the SB Deluxe last fall, and Stephen took the time to explain them to me. Basically, depending on how porous your material is, you just apply the sealer until the surface glistens, and then let it sit for 3-8 hrs until the stone appears to be mostly dry (maybe a few wet spots here and there, but nothing too much). Then buff the stone (back and forth a few times with a cloth) and that's it. If you need to apply another coat, I think you just do the same thing again (we didn't need to, as our new travertine tile throughout our downstairs is apparently not overly porous). I really, really liked how easy the stuff is to use (I didn't like the Porous Plus, if that's the stronger of the two-- a bit of a PITA to buff off the excess), and really appreciated the low-odor. So far the White Thassos in the bathrooms is holding up very well, and I imagine our new travertine floors also will.

Oh my goodness! Same boat. I have my own thread but am anxious to see what you pick. North facing for me too but I chose the Cambria Torque Quartz and I'm going Dorian Gray for my island. I have samples of Alabaster, Snowbound, Incredible White and Aesthetic White on poster boards. Similar to you I don't want a stark white. Aesthetic White is to Accessible Beige what Incredible White is to Agreeable.

If Aunt Ruby likes heat then Aunt Ruby it is for my first season.

Still hoping for some input on which of the whites to plant.

I have always thought that whites were a waste of space too until I grew White Queen last year. I was wildly impressed with the flavor, size of the tomatoes and prolific nature of the 2 plants I planted. I wish I took pictures because they were just fabulous tomatoes - really, in every way. I am looking forward to seeing what I get this year with them. So don't write off all whites...

I've not grown Absinthe, although Trudi said they were good and I trust her opinion, but I have grown Cherokee Green, and they were fabulous. It's a keeper in my garden.

I've been growing Moldovan Green and Emerald Green the past few years with great luck. I like the Moldovan a bit better as the flavor is sweet and spicy.

I did take Absinthe down to MAGTAG, and it came in 2nd or 3rd, can't remember off the top of my head, but everyone loved it.

What problems the Great White causes while growing?

I have being working on larger productions of the big delicious white tomatoes for years. I can only get up to 10-12 tomatoes per plant, with hard work.
